Default has anyone ever seen a pressure plate surface develop cracks?

the clutch came with the motor when i got it. i had the motor for about 4 years now. i started to notice some really harsh chatter and very high petal enguagement. so i decided to change the clutch.

has anyone seen this before?

flywheel glazed up pretty bad.

when i removed the pressure plate i did notice that some of the pressure plate bolts were kinda loose and others were really tight.

What kind of clutch is it, and how much torque are you putting through it? From the pics, it looks like some sort of organic disc, so if you're exceeding the limits of the clutch, you could be putting a lot of heat into the pressure plate and flywheel. I've seen pressure plates with hot spots, but I've never seen those kind of cracks. Inconsistently torqued/loose pressure plate bolts may have caused part of the pressure plate to experience higher temperatures under load. Flywheel looks pretty glazed, but I've seen worse. In any case, 4 years is a pretty decent run for an organic clutch with any sort of spirited driving and normal mileage. The disc actually looks to have a a fair amount of meat left on it, so you probably would've been fine for a while if it weren't for the pressure plate issue. This would be a good chance to possibly upgrade your clutch, resurface or replace the friction surface of the flywheel, and use some LocTite on the hardware when torquing them down.

Default Re: (inspyral)

its an act organic disk with extreme pressure plate.

i got a new clutch in aready fidanza flywheel and competition clutch stage2.

my car only makes 210whp and 140 torque so i dont think its enough to slip.

i loctite all the bolts when i installed the new clutch.

Yep pretty much normal.

Think about how you'd look if had to live in that environment.
