What engine? I probably would not leave it hanging out...that could be bad.

A couple options I have found out, cause I need to do the same thing. You can use a b20 iat sensor I think it is, it has a threaded body, then drill/tap a hole for it in intake mani.

Or, use a d series ect sensor, weld a nut into your charge pipe, and thread in the ect sensor (it uses same plug as iat sensor and will perform same function, I am told).

ect and iat are not the same sensor and cannot be swapped around!!!

Yea, I did not say that. I said you can use an ect sensor to serve the purpose of the iat, same type of sensor, one in metal housing one in plastic.

the metal sensor being used as a intake air sensor is basically going to just be measuring what the actual aluminum intake temp is and not the actual air because it is metal and will just get heatsoaked by the manifold thus just measuring what the aluminum temps are..

i still wouldnt use it in the charge pipe for the same reason.

one is plastic and one is metal for a reason. maybe im wrong but thats what i think. just use the b20.

Yea, I cannot confirm personally if it works 100% (yet). But that is what I was told by a guy that works at my tuners shop, they are using an ect for iat on his turbo D car. I'll probably get whichever is more easily obtainable, just thought I would throw another option to look at out there.
