Which jack to use for lowered cars (ultra low clearance jack).
I am changing the oil right now in my BMW that I am selling soon to get a Honda, and for whatever reason, this time I can't get my floor jack under the car. Its like the springs have settled more after 120k miles (or they are just dieing slowly). Anyway, my jack sucks and I don't like it. I want one of those cool jacks you see mechanics using in their shop floors. Where do I get one like this? And how much? (I hope to buy online).
Or you can just build a set of ramps out of an 8' long 2x6 piece of lumber...
Drive up those and pretty much any jack will work. I have a Craftsman SUV jack thats high and I have no trouble after using the cheapo ramps I made.

If you have a local store in your area, sometimes these go on sale and you could save on shipping.

I use a Honda spare-tire screw jack to pick up my car from the side, then use a regular ol' floor jack in the front.
Glad to see I'm not the only one that improvises...
LoL!
Now that I think of it, I use my Honda screw jack more than my floor jack!
Hrm...

Any other good ones? If not I may get the Torin.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Never owned a Torin jack, but I got a Torin vise - only one they make I think - and I'm V happy with the quality. I wouldn't have any problem buying a Torin jack from what I've seen and experienced, however...
The last time I was at Costco, they were selling a great looking low-profile, dual-piston (5 pumps to top), aluminum monster with real trailing wheels - not that stupid roller a lot of aluminum jacks have - and I think it was around $125. This the real thing, not a 'racing jack', so called, soooo you might check Costco out if you have a membership!
EDIT
W00T!!!
HERE is the jack I was talking about, but obviously NOT a Costco link!
Costco doesn't sell it online, but that doesn't mean they don't have them sitting in their brick n' mortar stores.
Anyway, Costco used to sell them for like a buck n' a quarter... I haven't been over there in a while.
Northern Tool sells them too, for $189, but that's a rip IMHO!

Looks like a Chinese knock-off of an A/C Hydraulics jack...
Um... A/C jacks are the best ones made, BTW - but out of the price-range on most Honda fanboys!
Anyway, don't fool yourself with cheap imitations...

or u can just use a decent thickness pair of wooden block under the front wheel (drive on), then roll the standard jack under the jacking point.
thats what i did before when i my car was pretty low.

craftsman race jack at sears, 200 bones, you might even need wood boards too depending on how low.
