Default Way to raise fuel/gas money for racers ?

What do you think about having a raffle for a $50.00 gas card with the proceeds being divided between the racers that travel a long distance to the Outlaw race Oct 11th and 12th?

Lets discuss this and see if we can get something that will work. I'm open to "constructive ideas"

My first thought is 6 chances for $5.00.

I'd also be looking for some one who could do this over the internet and at the track. As I'm not to good with how things work with these money over the internet ...

Interesting. You could do this for other events also with success.

I am seriously considering on taking on this task. Let me discuss it with my team tonight and I will have an answer by Monday morning. I have a lot of good ideas in regards to this. This is something that we the racers can control.

Maybe start with the BOTI race in 2 weeks at MIR.

I think it's a great idea.

Please chime in with thoughts.

we are driving 13 hrs to spectate for this so ill buy a couple of raffle tickets. 50$ or may 100$ gas card goes a long ways, just make sure its like, BP or something.

well we got bp, shell, citgo, walmart, kmart. but yeah, i forgot about a visa card even though that can be used anymore, i would imagine most people would use it. Only thing with the visa cards usually is that if you fill up for 60$, and its a 50$ card, you cant just drain the card and pay the rest with cash. Its confusing unless someone else knows about them.

If we go with the visa you would know exactly how much was on it and do't go over that amount or i could just do cash payouts. You can get visa cards in any amount.

Depending on what the majority decided. Several other thing swould need to be decide on.

It's a given; 100% would go back to the winners. I would not keep ANY profit.

Decisions....
1. As many $50 or $100 prizes that raffle ales can produce.
2. Drivers/crew only pots and spectators only pots. (maybe driver/crew = $100 and spectators = $50 prizes)
3. How to pay out? gas card / cash / visa card
4. When to sell tickets and when to have drawing? I was thinking selling tickets untill last round of qualifying, then raffe off at the end of final round of qualifying, before non-qualifiers pack it up.

THIS IS FOR THE US, BY US.

i'm down. but i think it needs to be a gas card only. as much as we would think people were using this for gas (if it was cash or visa card) people could use it for other stuff.

to not stray away from the real help of paying for fuel, i think that we need to have it for gas.

If you plan on doing it at the events, do it until last qual round starts. during that round, go to the nearest national station that sells deisel and gas and get a card from there. this is the most fair way to pick a station.

as ryan said above, i'd prefer it to be a non-OPEC supplied station, but if you are buying the cards the day of, i do not know how easy you will find a station like that.

Gas card!!! That would help. How about the raffle before other national events? Would this help alot of people (racers)or just the ones who are lucky enough to get the right numbers?

I have thought that too, one solution I have thought would be to have 2 pots, one for racer/crew members and one for spectators. If you have a crew breclet it's one pot and no braclet mean your in the spectators pot. Two drawings.

We need each other, without teams we have no show, without spectatos we have no events... Trying to help everyone.

I like the idea of a visa gift card. The card or cards could be purchased before the event. That's easier.

The idea of this it to raise money to help the teams that travel long distances to the races.

If the winner of the card chooses not to buy gas with it so be it.

Another idea by a friend was to just add $5.00 to the event fee. Doesn't each event ticket have a number? could that be used for the drawing ?

Is there a way to tie tech cards numbers in also ?

May be the tech cards get a free ticket to the raffle?

Thanks for stepping up Sandra.

The only thing about the pre paid visa cards is the gas pumps usually dont accept them. But that would be the easiest way of doing it. Either way it works out, you used the $50 in food, thats $50 in gas that you didnt have to pay for food.

THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL JUST A PLAN: I HAVE TO PROPOSE THIS TO WHO EVER IS RUNNING EACH EVENT, AND EACH TRACK, AND GET APPROVAL FROM BOTH.

Ok, I have been thinking and planning all weekend how to handle this and this is what I have come up with.

First off I think it will just be Visa gift cards....You can use it for gas, food, or a flat tire on the way home (as most of us have been in that situation at least once), or to cover your entry fee. It would be a hassle to find a gas station close to each track that whould be able to accomidate a toter and trailer it thats what the winner had, or that would even be open when the winner leaves the track.

TICKET SALES: Each car will be given a flyer about the raffle, and we will have it announced several times through out qualifying. Tickets will be $1 or 6 for $5. I will have a designated spot to purchase tickets and have someone selling them through out the stands.

PRIZES: The total in ticket sales wIll be be split 50 / 50 making one pot for drivers and one pot for spectators or anyone else. Then as much money that was taken in from sales will be divided into prizes and raffled out. I would also like to see if a few teams would donate 2 or 3 tee-shirts to be given out to the raffle winners. A great way to get your team / business advertised and great for morale.

for example: $1000 on raffle sales translates to this: I will pick 5 winning tickets from a list of teched drivers for $100 gift cards. Then I would pick 10 winning tickets from the raffle tickets for $50 gift cards and a tee-shirt. (providing I can get some donations)

All proceeds go directly back out in winnings.

THIS IS NOT FOR PROFIT. THIS IS FOR US BY US. IF WE DON'T SUPPORT OURSELVES NO ONE ELSE WILL EITHER.

I would like to try it with the BOTI race @ MIR. If successful I would like to do it for several other races, like the last 2 NOPI races, the FWD shoot out, and several other non sanctioned events. Since I will not be able to drive my car due to the crushed anlke at Atco, I will have plenty of time to devote to this.

Tell me what you all think about this.
