Default 89 crx si "stuttering" at low rpms

First, and I don't know if this is related, but if I cut my car off for just a minute or so and try to start it up it will start up then bog down until it dies. Each time I tried to start it up directly after it cuts off sooner and sooner. I have to let it cool off I guess at which time it starts up fine without bogging down until it cuts off.

My problem though, is that a lot of time my car will "stutter" (not sure how else to say it) when I start off or when I'm at low rpms even in a higher gear. I've noticed that in cooler weather it doesn't do it, but in NC summers are inthe 90s and it does it quite often. I've gotten to the point where I have to rev up to about 4k rpms so that it won't stutter. It seems to last only until about 2k rpms and then it's fine, unless I go below that.

Default FV-QR

Your first problem sounds like a main relay or fuel pump problem.

I think it may be the main relay. Had a problem with my car not starting up the other day, just like I did on my 90 crx before I changed the main relay.

I have the exact same problem. The car starts fine in the morning, but if I shut it off and try to restart, it fires momentarily and dies. Then takes a few minutes of waiting before it will fire up and stay running.

I also have the same "stuttering" when it's hot outside problem. I think they are related. When it's hot out and I'm cruising the car has a distinct and consistant misfire. Every 3 seconds or so you can feel it misfire.

Neither of these problems occur during the winter or when it's not hot outside.

I'm checking my relay tonight for cracked solder joints and may replace/repair tomorrow.

It's the main relay. Mine had "dry" solder joints and so I re-soldered. The car actually runs better. No more misfire and have not had the "no hot start" problem (so far). The re-solder was amazingly easy.

Check this website: http://techauto.tripod.com/mainrelay.htm There is a huge amount of info about the main relay. I have however noticed the site goes down due to overtrafficing, so be patient.

EDIT: Here is a similar site http://www.marklamond.co.uk/te...y.htm

Okay, well i dont think the relay fixed my problem, yesterday it got pretty hot outside, and my car started acting up agian. the stutter while slightly on the gas and it once didnt want to start took a little push on the gas and holding for it to maintian rpm or it would hesitate then die.

anyone have any other ideas.... only does this when its hot

Excellent link. I think I'll try this out on my moms Vigor. It'll sometimes have trouble starting after being parked in the sun.

So I resolder all the connection on the back of the relay. Now my oil light did not turn on when I start it up. Do you think I disconnect the wire somewhere? Please help. Thanks,
