Default noob here!

i have an 03 rsx-s. ssm
i also have 16in rota grids on the way. w/ +45 offset
i have federal tires already 215,45,16s

i am a typical low income college student who pays own rent, insurance, phone bill, with only a part time job, however i want my car to look good and clean.
i do not have money for coilovers, however i want to lower my car.
and i understand the concept "you get what you pay for"

to me that car sits very clean. anything in that range of ride height would be perfect.

i tried using all of those calculator things and had no idea wtf i was looking at...
i tried asking some people i know who drift, and all i got was "get coilovers" frankly i dont have the money for coilovers or else i would not be asking for help.

i think my best bet would be koni yellows but i dont know which springs to match for the look im going for.

so my question is, how much do i need to lower my car so it looks clean and not mistaken for a hover craft. i dont race much at all, maybe once a month. i dont autox or anything of the sort. i just want a clean car.

btw i also have a type r lip kit.

thanks to all help in advance.

If it were me, I would have kept the OEM wheels on the car and spent that money on good suspension.

Inexpensive wheels on the RSX just makes it look cheap. Rotas are OK cheap track wheels, but that's about it.

A good suspension stance with OEM wheels really looks clean and attracts far less attention (of the unwanted kind).

With that said, Tein S-Tech springs and Koni Yellows are hard to beat. Perfect lowering and a good setup. The Mugen SS kit is good as is the OEM A-Spec kit.

ep3man
--i appreciate your advice but my biggest hurdle is low income, high expense. however ill look into that idea

SkankyEJ7
--i only mentioned koni yellows because i heard they were the best based on my research

Todd00
--well the thing is, my gf bought me the rims for a xmas present, yes it was 6 months but i just talked to a rota rep and he said a few more weeks. long story why but yea.

i agree that the oem wheels look great with a nice lowering combo but i wanted to look different. and i wasnt about to ask her to spend $1k on rims for me. and many people in my area claimed rota wheels were a good wheel for a good price.

however do you think that the tein s techs would lower it enough for the clean low stance im looking for?? without leaving it to high with the lower profile tires. cause i read the s techs only lower it about 1.4R and 1.7F. theres a good 3.5in gap between the tires and wheelwell right now with the federal tires on the stock rims which are 16s. so that would leave a rough 2 in gap. is that much???

i really want this to look clean, and also would the rims be inside the wheelwell when lowered? cause i hate to have to deal with spacers with all the stories of wheels falling off on people.

however thank all of yall for the advice and help so far. its making me think about alot.

As I've said many, many times...you bought the wrong car if you want a slammed ride and want to maintain any handling and ride comfort.

You're going to have to compromise or sacrafice. Choice is yours.

But IMO a ~1.5" drop looks fine on these cars. I don't get the desire to slam your ride just to impress your buddies while you crash off of every pothole and bang your bumpstops.

Suspension travel is not a dirty word.

i definately i hear you on the potholes. i live in new orleans and last year our city fixed about 51,000 potholes. and theres many more.

but yea i just want it to look good, i know lowering a car always is a bad idea and lowers its resale value. you seem to know what your talking about and i appreciate the help.

i really didnt consider my ideal look the slammed look but i guess your right. thanks for the advice.

do you recommend the ground control coilovers ? i saw they were only $330 + shocks then again you get what you pay for or would i better off with the koni an tein s tech setup?

No, ground control coilovers (any sleeved coilovers) on the EP3/RSX is a bad idea unless you really, really know what you are doing with the suspension. Plus, every time you adjust the alignment goes to hell.

Springs and good shocks are easy, ride good, handle well and look good. The Mugen SS and A-Spec kit are by far the easiest solution, and a good one at that. Springs/Konis are a bit better, but require a little more effort for install.

to the ts, bro i know money is a problem but if i were you, i would just save money and do it right the first time by getting coilovers. it will save you time and money other than going with koni yellows with lowering springs or sleeved coilovers.

but if you want a nice clean drop on your car with springs and shocks, i say go with s-techs and koni yellows.

S-Techs and Koni Yellows *are* the right way to do it. To get a good aluminum-bodied fully adjustable coilover, you gotta spend a lot of cash. And they are still completely impractical for a daily-driven car.

And any fully-adjustable coilover $1000 or less is junk for these cars, period.

Get the springs from an authorized Tein dealer as there were fake Tein springs running around for a while.

tein.com probably still has the details up.
