Default Looking for 350 to 400 hp street car...

I am just looking for a fun street car that i can build on later and get more power, but I am lost on what is needed to have a reliable street civic with 350+hp motor. I have searched, read, and asked many people. The setup I have came up with is the following does anyone know of anything else I may need or something I may not?

Precision 550cc Fuel Injectors
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Golden Eagle Fuel Rail
CP 9.1 Pistons 84mm
Eagle H Beam Rods
OEM Headgasket
Arp Head Studs
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
Dont Know about the Valvetrain, Cams, etc.
Not sure on what kit to go with either thought about turbonetics, full race, or revhard dont know which is the best for the buck to start with dont want to drop 4 grand in a kit that i will rip apart in a year or so to get more power

but how does everything look tryin to get to 350hp as my first build on a b16a2 motor.

If you are looking for something to build on later I suggest you do spend the money on a good turbo kit like full-race, peakboost, etc. Go with a gt30r or one of the borg warner turbos. This way you will make the power you want now and later. Everything you have now looks good but I suggest you get some 880cc injectors to allow you room to grow!

WOW so much misinformation. The bigger the injectors the harder it is to make the car idle correctly so if you aren't running 600 hp stay away from the 800cc injectors. Next, buying a complete turbo kit is cool if you have lots of money to waste. Do some research, ask some question and piece together a good kit yourself it will cost you a fraction of a fullrace, or revhard kit. You don't need a golden eagle fuel rail the stock on will support 500 hp easy with a good fpr. I guess you are getting your block sleeved because you are going to run 84.5 mm pistons. in a block that can probably only take an 82mm bore and boost safely. Everything else looks good but don't forget about a good clutch, maybe an lsd. Also as far a valvetrain. Gsr cams will work or ITR,CTR. there are a bunch you can use but gsr are most readily available. As far as valve springs I have run supertec and rocketmotorsports with great success. But there are many other great company's.

Not really misinformation, just a different viewpoint..........

He's right about the sleeved bit. But for 350-400whp you don't need to sleeve a block and you don't need an 84mm bore. It's a good idea (the sleeved bit, not the 84mm bore) but not absolutely necessary. The same goes for the valve springs and retainers. A b16 can safely rev from 8k-8.5k, but is goin a bit to far when your in the heat of the moment worth all the PITA of takin your head off, buying a new hg and paying for a valve job? Is this car your dd?? If so sleeve the bitch and get the valvetrain. To many people don't make reliability as important as it is on a dd. If you don't wanna spend $$ you don't have to then you're gonna have to take the time and do some research. That is one of the very few things that can save you money and still keep things reliable.

Just like was stated earlier.......you need to learn for yourself. Read the FAQ's. Don't get all bewildered and puss out........read them! If you don't understand something I'm sure someone will help you out. However, people will be MUCH more likely to help you out if they know that you have at least tried to learn it for yourself first. GL.

i have read alot in the FAQ's section and searched for along time. But there are so many different threads with people saying some many different things on different motors, i just never understand or get ahold of the concept. I wanted a 84.5mm bore for the simple fact to help out in the torque side of stuff. Not much but hey every little bit helps. I mean i have been told gsr cams are horrible for a boosted motor get a turbo cam. THis car is a semi dd if that makes sense. I have 2 cars and I switch from one to the other. This one i drive half of the time if that, its my baby lol. But you say piece together my own kit, i dont understand what is best for a turbo setup together that is why i was going with a premade kit to insure i dont have mismatching parts that would screw something up. but thanks for hte help so far.

what? 800cc injectors wouldn't be enough for 600hp by a long shot

See that the thing. There is no "best". there is "best for YOU". As KeySoze stated, there are number of combinations that work well for that power, and in today's standards, its not as difficult as you think, as long as you think thoroughly, and look to the more reputable companies to start. Also, instead of just the FAQs, research other peoples completed projects, and find out if some of theose projects fit similarly to your goals and needs. Yes, a GT30R can work, but its not the only turbo that works well for the power you need. Perhaps you DON'T want a water-cooled turbo, or deal with the expensive aspects of owning such a turbo. For your goals, the smaller and midframe garretts do the trick. From the BW standard, only the S200 series is needed. Check w/ Schister66 (moderator) on his setup. That might be similar to what you're trying to acheive.

Misinformation??? I am running 1000cc injectors and my car idles like stock!! I am saying this because I made the mistake of going with 550cc injectors on my first build and then I wanted more so I went with 750cc. Then I came across a sleeved block and that meant I could make more power so I just went with 1000cc to allow me to grow! I did not plan on making any more than 300whp but you once you have it you want more!

see i do plan to build past 350 or 400. that is just where i want to start cause i dont see it making much since to try for 600 or 700 on my first build. as far as turbos go i really am lost on the different sizes and everything websites say one thing they are rated and others tell me that its rated low. all i know is for now i want a reliable street car with a little power at least in the high 300s. should i build the bottom end rock solid now to make it easier down the road or just build as i go?

You dont need to sleeve, but you def need to get some forged rods and pistons if you want a reliable DD. It really depends on how fast you want to up the power and how much free time you have for them to sleeve the block. At 300-400 you dont need to sleeve it, but at 450-500 I would look into doing it. I know 450 is on the low side, but if this is his DD I would rather have it sleeved then to have everything hit the fan and hes SOL.

like others have stated if you plan on making 400whp, i would get at least 880cc injectors, these support around 500whp, and will idle like a champ.

we use a lot of supertech valvetrain with great success, but at 350-400whp the stock head wont have any issues. oem itr or gsr cams are also proven to perform well on these types of setups.

sleeving now wouldnt necessarily be a bad idea, especially if you plan on making more power down the line, but definately wouldnt be necessary at the current level.

the stock fuel rail and regulator will support 500+whp without any issue so there is an area where you can save money and invest it elsewhere, such as a gt series turbo.

ok on the sleeving my block i have a buddy that does amazing work and told me he would bore my block out and sleeve it for me for 120 bucks labor then the price of the sleeves which aint that much but this guy is rich as hell and does machine work cause he loves it not for the money. then i do know i need forged pistons and rod s, oem casing aint strong enough for boost. plus i will need to replace the bearings, headstuds, and headgasket. But i have no idea on the strength of the b16a2 valvetrain. I would prefer to build this block to hold 600hp to save me time later on and a little money possibly. But as far as the fuel, and turbo setup i only want the 350 to 400 range. i have heard alot about skunk2 valvetrain setups but again nothing amazing, ripping the head off and putting a new valvetrain later on would be better than ripping apart the whole block though i suppse. so far the motor setup is.....

stock fuel rail & regulator
880cc injectors
forged rods & pistons
headgasket
headstuds
bearings
stock valvetrain or skunk2 or supertech
gsr or itr cam
then hondata, boost controllers, and gauges

the gauges i thought about running was oil press, boost, egt, and water temp sound good?

well this was a guy that butted into my conversation about my motor plans acting like he knew everything about honda's and all his buddies backed him. i didnt take him serious but i still wonder about the gsr cam. so if i stay with a stock valvetrain should i stick with the cam or get a gsr?

For what you are doing I would say..........CTR cam > gsr cam > b16 cam

At least 3" exhaust.

I would invest in an oil pressure gauge before boost even. Its a really nice investment for the safety of your engine.

But then i would go with boost and water temp next. I would almost rather get a wideband O2 over EGT or air/fuel, since the wideband is going to be more useful in tuning.

I'm sure other people will have more info, but there are already several topics on this type of thing. Good luck!

Boost and oil pressure for sure. A wideband if you can afford it would also be nice.
