hey heres a dump questions guys my coolant temp gauge doesn't work and it started going crazy maybe a few months back and i haven't checked out the cluster or the coolant temp sensor can this be a reason why the fan isn't turning on? and why its drinking coolant because of it?

Coolant leaves the lines in 3 usual ways:

1) it's burned
2) it's leaking
3) it's mixing with another system (oil)

To diagnose the problem find out why you're drinking coolant.
Any white-ish smoke from the exhaust at WOT? Is there coolant in your oil?

If your coolant level is consitently low, then your fan should be on on a more than regular basis... sounds like you have multiple problems. I would first find out where the coolant is going.
As for the fan not turning on.... there are so many reasons I'd start to search on the forums.

the gauge doesnt work? did you try to hook the fan up to the battery.. see if it works? you can also short the temp sensor connector and the gauge should either go all the way up or down.. is your car smoking white? no leaks? have you pressure tested your coolant system?

After the car sits for about 3 hours, does air shoot out when you open the rad cap? Is the rad low on coolant, but the reserve tank full?

And im almost positive its an engine ground. Switch and cluster means it could be a ground.
