Default Throttle cut out high rpms

I just swaped a B16 into an 88 crx si and once it hits 7700 rpm the throttle cuts out. I checked the throttle cable and it is adjusted right. I put on a different tps from a d16a6 because the one on the b16a was broken. Would this affect it at all. Also it doesent seem to have as much power as it should. other than the "maybe vtec isnt hitting" could it be anything else?

You might be experiencing a fuel cut. The ECU might be in limp mode. The first thing I would do is to check if you have any codes. Check your codes and see what you have.

I have the pw0 ecu i just ran it and it rev limits at 7500 "maybe the d16 rev limiter because of the d16 tps" and the only code its throwing is no speedometer because i broke mine putting in the engine and the new one is in the mail.

i'm not sure about the tps...that may limit your revs. also, if you have a speedometer code, i believe it WILL affect the vtec and rev limits because the car doesn't know how fast you are going. honda engineers a safety margin into the ecu for when there are problems. fix whatever will clear the codes and you should be good to go

It may be hitting the cold rev limiter. I can't remember what its set to in that ECU. If it thinks the engine isnt hot enough, it'll cap the revs there.

Fixing you speedometer may cure the problem, but it could be a engine coolant temp sensor that failed, and is reading about room temperature somewhere. Very easy to check tho, just need a multimeter when the engine is hot, turn the engine off and read the resistance of the sensor and check it against the graph in the service manual.

Also from what ive found out, PR3 should have rev limiter set at 8200, PW0 at 8000. Automatic ECU's would have it set lower than that. I've seen 7500 mentioned for automatic's. The factory tach is not always accurate, and can be a few hundred RPM's off at the high end. Thats what you guys are probably seeing. Either automatic ECU's, and or tachs that aren't accurate.

If you want to get past ur automatic ECU's limitations, u can just get em chipped with a stock tune that has a higher rev limiter. This is assuming you don't have any other preexisting condition such as limp home, or a cold engine thats preventing it from maximizing itself.

well i checked ecu and the only code it said was that it didnt see a speedometer "code 17" so i should get my new speedo on monday then hopefully vtec will work and rev limiter will raise. BTW thanks on those vacuums they worked great i just plugged that second canister thing.

also what is limp mode, never heard of that saying until I joined the honda forum..

sometimes my vtec bogs down when it kicks in, instead of powergain im getting power loss..

idles fine, new cat, new fuel filter, injector o rings, and new alternator & redline sythetic motor oil. Runs great with no codes. Just bogs down when hits in vtec. When not warm it goes thru the hole powerband no problem, when warm and the vtec kicks in it just bogs down with power loss.

you go into limp mode if there is a major problem, like a code 4, your ecu will use a backup mcu, the rev limiter will be at 3500 and vtec will be disabled.

do you have a chipped ecu? if the vtec crossover point was set too low then it might bog.

Oh ok, I think the ecu is chipped (thats what the guy told me). The vtec kicks in at 5200 rpm.

how much power can I expect from the vtec, I personally dont feel a difference other than the engine get louder.. I thought there is like a 20-30 hp boost.

you wont feel an instant power increase as the engine hits the vtec crossover. its up arround 7k rpm u will feel it pull, i know in my car it pretty much behaves as a standard 1.6l, till you get up in the 6-7.5k range, as the peak hp occurs around 7600rpm (when its making peak hp)...

well my new speedo came so when i got home from work i put it in. and guess what everything works perfectly so i guess when your in neutral the rev limit is lowered or when its trowing a code it is. but moral of story is it all works now i need to get disk brakes in the back, a better shift linkage, and a civic wagon winter beater. night

You need to calibrate your tps.
.5volts close 4.5 full throttle.
Also use pr3 ecu,
redline is 8,000 fuel cut off is 8,200, it will go all the way to 8,200.
