Erratic idle then stalls
Hey guys I'm new to this so I'm sorry if i leave any important info out, but i have a 92 Honda accord automatic i have had an erratic idle for awhile now (1000 to 2000rpm give or take) but it would only happen every once in awhile with no specific way just random but, the other day i was driving and all of the sudden the car just died on me i still had all electrical but the engine was not running i tried starting it and it would turn over but would not start, so i let it sit for the night and in the morning came out to see if it would start, it did start but would idle even more erratic from like 100 to 4000 rpm and then would stall out almost instantly within 5 to 10 seconds so i thought it could possibly be a clogged fuel filter so i replaced that which looked like it hadn't been replaced for awhile, but after doing this it started and idled fine for a second then started to idle erratic (100 to 4000rpm) and stall out, but this time it lasted for about 30 seconds then stalled out, after starting it and going through this about 5 to 8 times it just wont start at all and it does this every time oh ya as well when u give it a little gas at all it stalls instantly and there is def enough fuel pressure checked that. i hope this is enough info your help is greatly appreciated thank you
Sounds like clogged injectors, that's what mine was doing before I finally got it running right. It's not hard to pull the injectors, you just have to remove the fuel rail and the injectors just pull out, clean up the tips and put 'em back in, make sure they are gapped correctly (.040) then I'd run some techron in the next tank of gas.
You aren't going to want to hear this, I got to thinking about this problem today and that's what my '91 EX did right before the distributor took a crap.
If cleaning the injectors doesn't fix it, I'd take a look under the distributor cap, if the rotor and cap look old, they aren't that expensive to replace and it's just cheap insurance to do so. The ignitor unit could also be going bad, if it's not the injectors, spark plugs, rotor and dizzy cap, distributor, or ignitor then it's going to be something electrical like the main relay, ECU or TCU, which is beyond my scope.
Post up when you figure it out, if you don't mind.

Hey Guys sorry it took me so long but ive been tearin apart everything and testing all i could but im pretty sure i found the problem it was the IAC but not the valve i believe it is called the idle air control motor (it is where you actually plug in the wire) but neways it showed that the ohms where with in range but when i checked it for continuity (which the haynes manual told me to check for) it had continuity so i decided to clean it up because it was pretty gummed up i put it back on and still didnt work so after checking everything else and everything being ok i decided to order that part it was 191.97 from rock auto cheapest i could find so hopefully within the next couple days ill be able to say this problem is fixed
Thanks For Your Help Guys

If you cleaned the injectors and made SURE that the ignitor and coil are good, and that you are getting good fuel pressure, and it still won't start, then I'd check the main relay and make sure that all of the "runs" look good. If the main relay is functioning properly then things just got expensive.
Good Luck!
Come to think of it my '91 did something like this before it died, I ended up having to drop about a grand at the Honda Stealership to get it fixed, it had a busted timing belt and the distributor was kaput.
God I hope that isn't the issue here.
