Default New Tires

Well it's about that time. I need 2 tires and I'm looking for options and suggestions. The car is my daily driver. I want something reliable for DD but something that would do the job if I need to "get on" on the car. I currently have Kumho Ecstas SPT's but I don't like how they handle and they're too big. They're 225/45/16's. I bought the car like that. So I'll just wear those two out and then buy something else to match what I'm going to buy right now. I was looking at the Yokohama Parada Spec 2 and Falken Azenis RT-615 . Any suggestions/ personal experiences?
They're going on JDM ITR wheels.
I was thinking 205 or 215's? Maybe 40's but 45's ideally.
Thanks

don't know if they make them in 215 45 16 size anymore, but hankook rs-2s are pretty awesome. i know they make them in 205 45 16. you definitely want to stick with 45 series with any brand. azenis are cool... if you're alright with the low miles you'll get on them.

If your rims are 7" wide then get the 205's. Your caR will feel a 1000 times better.

I just ordered Bridgestone RE-01R's in 205-45-16 for my JDM GM 16's. It should get here after I return from Montreal F1 on this up coming weekend.
Read lots of good thing on these tires on S2k and other reviews from Best Motoring Video but could not find any in our R forum. I can not wait to get rid of the Korean crap Kumho Estca Supra I have now in 215-40-16!

For daily driving I would suggest 205 45 16s. They will be as smooth as it gets. If your looking for a little more grip I would do 215 45 16s. I just picked up some Hankook Ventus R-S2 in 215's for $99 each. The 205 version run $95 each. The Azenis wear too fast especially on a daily but grip well for events like autocross etc. I have never had good experiences with Yokohoma Paradas but then again they were the originals not the spec 2s. They wore real fast and HORRIBLE in the rain. For daily driving, the best tire I have ever had were the Kumho Ecsta SPTs in 205 45 16s and they were also on JDM 16s. Awesome all around tire although I dont know if they make them anymore. You couldn't beat them for under 75 a tire.

I think it is a toss up right now between the Dunlop Direzza sport Z1 star spec's and the Stone's. Good chioce either way. Azenis would be 3rd IMO.

Just installed Bridgestone RE-01R in 205-45-16. So much more comfortable then the Korean crap kumho Supra Estca in 40's and predictable grip but no time to really break them in yet. I am amazed at the construction with so much roll over tread available before side wall.

I'm waiting of nsxtasy to chime in.

IMO they are several several different tires being tossed around here. Many are designed for different reasons so its hard to compare them fairly.

That is usually the best bet.

Well, first let's start with the advice I often post, outlining the different types of tires and choices for Integras, including our Type R's:

a. People who want the maximum traction on dry pavement, and don't care about anything else. These are usually people who sometimes use their street tires in autocross or on the racetrack or in brisk drives on curvy roads. The best tire for such folks IMHO is usually the Falken Azenis RT-615, which is available in Integra sizes of 195/60-14, 205/50-15, 215/45-16, and 205/40-17, depending on your wheel size, and the Dunlop Sport Z1 Star Spec in 195/55-15. These tires don't last all that long - treadlife of 10-12K miles is typical - and they are only so-so in rain. But if you only care about dry grip, they're the bomb.

b. People who want good traction on dry pavement, but also want good traction in rain and also care about value (purchase price and/or treadlife), and who DON'T use these tires in snow (either it doesn't snow where they live, or they have separate tires or another vehicle for winter conditions). These are usually people who use their tires for everyday driving. The tires I most often recommend for these folks are the Kumho SPT and the Avon Tech M500, which are available in Integra sizes of 195/55-15, 205/50-15, 205/45-16, and 205/40-17. I recommend the Yokohama ES100 in 195/60-14 for those with 14" wheels. All of these tires have very good grip on dry pavement, are excellent in rain, and last a reasonably long time (25-40K miles).

c. People who need to use the same tires in snow during the winter as well as in moderate to warm temperatures the rest of the year. These folks need all-season tires, which are a compromise; they have the flexibility to be used in a wider range of weather, but they're not as good in winter as true winter tires and they're not as good the rest of the year as summer tires such as those mentioned above. For these folks, I recommend the Kumho ASX in 195/55-15, 205/50-15, 205/45-16, and 205/40-17. For those with 14" wheels, I recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position in 195/60-14.

All of these tires are reasonably priced, and are the best you can get for your money in each of these categories, IMHO. You can get them shipped from places like Tire Rack, Discount Tire (whose higher prices are offset by free shipping), and Vulcan Tire.
Now, I'm not sure why you don't like the handling of the SPT. Maybe it's just because you have the wrong size tires on your car? The solution to that is obvious.

Since you have 16" wheels, you will need to get 205/45-16 or 215/45-16. Most tires come in one size or the other, not both. So decide on the tire you want, and get whichever of these two sizes it comes in.

If you want to get some SPT's, but in the right size for your car, they come in 205/45-16, but for some reason the Tire Rack doesn't carry that size. It's $86.30/tire at tires-easy.com

It's funny you should be considering the Yokohama Parada Spec 2, which is one of the worst summer tires you can get, and the Falken Azenis RT-615, which is one of the stickiest. Read the quote in this post, and think about whether you want the stickiest tires you can get (like the RT-615 or the RE-01R) and are willing to live with frequent replacement of your tires, or if you'd prefer to live with a bit less performance in a tire that lasts longer. Your choice, of course.

All three of those tires are very good, if you're looking for a supersticky tire and don't mind the short treadlife. However, the Star Spec doesn't come in a 16" size for the ITR.

The KDW2 isn't a bad tire, but it's really overpriced for the performance. For about the same money, you can get the Goodyear F1 GS-D3, which has MUCH better performance. Alternatively, you can get similar performance in the Kumho SPT, which is only about half the price of the KDW2.

The S.drive is very similar in performance etc to the Kumho SPT. In most sizes, they're more expensive though. They're $94/tire in 205/45-16 at the Tire Rack.

The Advan Neova isn't available in sizes to fit the ITR. Not in North America, anyway.
