Default eg head swap, now makes no power!

i was misinformed that my head gasket was blown. so i planned puttin a new one on when i found an auction on ebay for a p&p head with port matched intake manifold. my motor is a d16z6.

well i got everything together, adjusted the valves, set the idle, and swapped oil and water.

now the thing makes NO power on the bottom end and barely any up top. i have absolutely no idea why.

all hoses are right, the head is torqued to spec, and all new genuine honda gaskets were used.

i have no cel either

if anybody has any ideas, some input would be amazing.

thanks guys and gals

Check your cam timing.

I am willing to bet that your engine doesn't rev worth crap either

I am willing to bet it's off.

Also check your ignition timing, besure to use the service connector jumper to check your timing to dissable the advance.

On the D16Z6 you need to have the crank set at TDC

and the cam gear needs to have the "up" up... and the mark on the cam gear at around 7 o'clock needs to line up with the arrow on the plastic cover on the head
the two indented lines DO NOT line up flat against the deck of the head, it is supposed to be a little more count-clockwise.

see the manual:

when i put the head on, i just spun the motor til piston 1 was up top, than spun the cam til the up was up and the indents lined up. the belt fit on fine.

i dont know how to time the ignition, and i cant find a good writeup about it.

thanks alot for your help, it was very informative.

and it doesnt rev too well, it feels as if theres no throttle response, and i have to rev it to about 2500 to take off without stalling.

Timings off, if you dont know how to do it, call a friend who owns a timing light and does know, or take it to a shop.

Here is a write up in ignition timing.

If this doesn't do anything... than you will need to check your cam timing.

here is the diagram for the D16z6

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by axegrinder87 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">when i put the head on, i just spun the motor til piston 1 was up top, than spun the cam til the up was up and the indents lined up. the belt fit on fine.

FYI the belt will fit on fine no matter where you have the cam set.

which indents were lined up to what?

There are 3 indent markers.
the two indent markers at 3:00 and 9:00 are slightly off level.
the indent marker at around 7:00 should point directly to the mark on the plastic cover.

No problem... I had the same problem when I rebuilt the motor.
