A/C Belt.....
The bolt that holds the a/c "tensioner/idler" pulley to the motor broke off into the motor while I was driving and the tensioner pulley obviously fell off...never seen that happen but it sure enough did! I really do not want to attempt to get the bolt out of the motor. Now the question comes in...
Has anyone just bypassed the tensioner pulley and ran the a/c belt from the crank pulley directly to the a/c compressor?
I guess I would have to figure out the exact size belt I need then work some magic to get it on the pulleys.
My dad claims there is some tool he has used (he races stock cars) that is made to work the belt on the pulleys when not using a tensioner...not sure though.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm in the exact situation, I removed my power steering stuff and now I'm getting ready to roast my *** off this summer (not an option), or accomplish the same thing you're trying to.
Any input? I haven't looked at the AC pulley but I was wondering if I could remove the AC pulley, slip a belt around both the crank and AC pulley, and reinstall the AC pulley. Probably can't...

Yeah, I was thinking about trying that also...
I'm going to attempt to get it working one way or another this weekend so I'll let you know the outcome. It's already mid 90's and humid as hell and I drive way too much for work (in a shirt and tie) to be sweating my nuts off all summer!
Come on, someone has to have some input on this......anyone?

in short, no you can not because not only would it be a pain in the *** to try to get a belt on there but you need the tensioner pulley to do exactly that, apply tension to the belt so that it is tight enough that it doesnt squeek its *** off while the compressor is on. this exact thing happed to me and i just looked online for a new a/c bracket and i found one for like $20. problem solved, gl.
I have the tensioner pulley/bracket piece but the bolt that holds it to the motor is broke off into the motor...
sounds a bit different than the problem that you had...so I guess problem not solved.
If I cannot figure it out without the tensioner then I will have to extract the bolt from the motor which will be a PITA considering where it's at.

Well I feel like an idiot because I'm sure you are correct...for some reason in my mind the bolt was broke off into the motor!...
this happened end of summer/fall of last year and I have not looked at it since and now that it's hot again I was going to look at it this weekend.
Now that I'm 99.9% sure that's what happened...anybody have an a/c bracket??? lol
Thanks for the help guys!

I don't want to make a thread for a question on the same topic so I'll ask here. Does it matter if the bracket and pulley are from an auto or manual tranny? Because every where I find one they specifically say it came off a ___ tranny.
