Lower transmission to engine support / mounting bracket's... Really Needed?
I figured I would post this here since obviously, you guys put the most stress on your transmissions.
My question is about the B-series lower transmission to engine support / mounting bracket's. These are the brackets that bolt to the BOTTOM of the block in the front (1 bolt) and the rear (2 bolts) as well as the transmission in the front and the rear.
The reason I am considering leaving them off is because I cannot remove the trans with the down pipe installed. In order to remove the brackets I HAVE to remove the DP and this is a PITA with my setup. This is not a DD but it is a street car that I take to the drag strip every now and then.
Thanks for the advise, in advance.

if you use ALL of the bolts, you should be OK. i dont use one of the 2 bracets because of the downpipe (i dont remember if its the front or the rear one)
id say 99% of people dont use any. hell it seems a lot of people only bolt the trans on with 2 bolts lol

It may be my old age but I like the idea of having the bottom mounts.
I had solid mounts made last year. There were basically 1/4 steel plate welded with in a "L" shape for the tranny side and attached to the traction bar mount up front.
Use the OEM drivers side bracket and replace the pin with a bolt and a straight 1/4" plate going forward.
If you can weld you can make them for next to nothing. That engine and tranny won't move and the shift linkage always stays in good alignment.

he isnt talking about the engine mounts...he is talking about the support braces that hold the engine and transmission to each other.
i thought the same thing at first....had to read it a second time.

That's why I noted they bolt to the bottom in caps, to try and defer from this. Sorry for any confusion... I knew people were going to think about the torque mounts at first. Thanks for the reply guys.
