Default Q: Anyone buy a Rad from any of these Internet sellers (see post for details) and ...

http://www.thepartsbin.com
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com
http://www.car-stuff.com

They all want about $150 for an all metal OEM Toyo Rad, but when I click the link to order, suddenly the brand becomes, "Cooling Systems & Flex Radiator." Not sure it was a Toyo at all.

Any recommendations?

Thank you all. See vehicle app below.

BE VERY careful with an AM radiator. I bought a Fluidyne- NONE of the bolt-patterns were correct for the AC fans. Alright IF you don't need/want AC! I wasn't about to buy custom slimline fans ($$$$$$$) and build custom mounts for a $450 radiator! Back it went.

Next, I bought a Koyo. The fans and all bolted up perfectly. Only one problem-the OEM rad was a 11/16" (I think), the Koyo was 2-1/16" thick. When I dropped the rad/fans in, they WOULD NOT clear the front motor-mounts! NO WAY, even stripping the rad, mounting it, then trying to mount the fans in after! Again, all custom slimline fans and brackets would have been needed!

I also checked some other AM stuff. Had one delivered to a parts warehouse, opened to inspect for damage prior to paying. The CRAPPIEST looking metalwork/welding I have EVER seen. The tag said "made in Taiwan". Supposed to be a "super-cooling all aluminum rad". A REAL POS. Watch out-these are all over the place!

I finally quit. I wasn't about to spend $350+ for an AM, then have to research special slimline fans, which I am not sure were even available. Due to the fact I plan to only build the engine up slightly (+30hp or so) for street-driving, I bought a NEW OEM Honda radiator and dropped it in in one hour. This was after 3 MONTHS of doing research and sending back units that would not work.

I live in extreme cold country in the winter, and a solid aluminum or steel would do better that the OEM steel/plastic composite, due to extreme expansion/contraction in winter use. Maybe someone actually makes a GOOD quality AM radiator that actually FITS for normal street use (not racing), but I researched for 3 months and ended up with the OEM. I got 14 years from the original, maybe 10 from this one.

By the way, been wrenching for 30+ years, and this was the MOST insane parts-hunt I have ever ran. I run some damned good AM stuff on the car (intake/exhaust/entire suspension), and have found IF you do A LOT of research you can get good AM parts. Except for the !#$%^&* radiator!! Wrenchy

i have a c&r radiator and it fits really well and came with the fan already mounted to it. it's not an oem fan but it wired right up and works good.

Q: The Honda I have was hit in the front (mild hit) but the rad, shroud-fan, etc., was back toward THAT Motor Mount you mentioned and I had to cut off part of the shroud to even allow the fan to turn ...

On Honda's that are normal how much clearance is there between that mount and the edge of the shroud ??? ... I will be pulling the damaged area out and need to know how far to go.

Good point, extreme cold will crack plastic in a hearbeat.

PS. I read your reply about getting the measurements. Thank you. I'm reponding here so I dont have to keep posting. Hope you see this PS add on.

DIYER-When the wife gets home this PM, I'll pop the hood and take some measurements for you. I'll get

1) Distance from BACK EDGE of fan shroud(s) to the front of the motor-mount and
2) Distance from the REAR FACE of the radiator to the motor-mount.

#2 should be more important-if you get the rad pulled back far enough, the shrouds will fit. Good luck with the repair- A fair amount of plastic and smaller gauge metals in this area. Later- Wrenchy
