Default tranny noise

Can someone help me? Please! I have a 94 y80(gsr transmission) There is a weird noise coming from it. It hists and rattles when i'm going 70 in 5th gear and pretty much any gear when the rpm is sitting in the middle like from 3500 to 5000 rpm.

And is it safe to be racing it at the tracks?

Thanks in advance

I'm not mechanic but I'll try, ha ha. What happens above or below your set range? Is it all gears? Much luck.

it only happens at certain mph like 20, 40, and 70. And it is happening in all gears right around 3000-5000rpm range.

Well, I have a 98 y80 in my 96 EX and it rattles when the clutch is out but you can only hear it when you are parked. I just got it back from the tranny shop over here and they said it was the input bearing. I would suggest taking it down to a tranny shop and having them take a look at it. I don't know about you but I just don't have the time to mess with mine so I will be paying out the ****, its looking around 900 plus But, yeah, I would do that and see what they say.

how do you know it's in the tranny?
try dis-engageing the clutch and rev the engine to 3.5-5k and see what happends.
sounds like harmonics if it's only in a certain rpm range. ie. a bearing
might be differential related

disengaging the clutch can still have tranny related noises, such as a bad pilot bearing. tis only used when the clutch is disengaged. i asked what i asked, becuase of process of elimination, i could advise on its location. this of course depends on his answer to my question.

then its not the tranny. i need more information. what kind of rattle? a mettallic, a loud or quiet, low or high pitched? it almost sounds as if the a/c clutch is gone screwy. sometimes its not the bearing is the clutch for the compressor that fails, but the supports for the clutch plate, and the plate can get wobbly and shaky, and it will make quite a racket. what did you check for loose heat shields? it does now sound like a resonating issue possibly.

take a look at your tranny fluid and also check your plug to see if it has metal shavings on it because it is magnetic. your best bet it to take it to a trans shop. but before then i probably wouldn't run my car hard at the track if it already has a problem

its like a high mttallic noise that only come up at certain speed especially at 70 mph after it passes 70mph it stops. I just changed my gear oil and now at 70 it is more quite but at 80mph the same noise comes up.

Thanks alot for being helpful too
