blowby could it be valve seals
a little info ok so i have a b18c internally built turbo set up... i have 81 mm je pistons with eagle rods. i am getting lots of blowby and i have a BRfittings catch can kit. i am smoking a lot at idle and when i let off the gas. i have 175 compression across all 4 and my leakdown test is showing no more than 2% in any cylinders. i believe its my valve seals. everyone is claiming its a cracked ring but if that was the case how the hell is my compression even like this? i need some opinions. i put new valve seals in 8000 miles ago and i am also running stock gsr valves i didnt upgrade those
i think the thing making everyone think its a ring is that one of the spark plugs is black. is that possible by a valve seal or impossible? the other 3 plugs are white but one of them is charcoaled (burned oil)
are you sure that the smoke is oil burning and not fuel. smell your smoke or put your hand over muffler when its cold and smell your hand
Does your oil seem get dirty quickly? Those are signs that the rings are letting exhaust into the crankcase and polluting the oil carbon...
Your leakdown and compresssion tests appear great, but the singled out spark plug indicates that cylinder is burning alot of oil. (more than valveseals)

no i dont not any unusual signs of oil getting dirty.
the spark plug is the only thing making shy away from thinking its valve seals. but i believe valve seals could infact make a spark plug do this

valves seals.... same happened to me on a built motor.... has it been doing in since the valve seal install? prolly put the in. on the ex. and vise versa..... pull the exhaust manifold i bet youll find drops of oil in the ports....

Exactly or it could be just hammered exhaust

I was going to say a guide as well..they don't get "hammered" but they do crack, they are cast iron..we have noticed they become brittle in boosted apps. so we install maganese bronze valve guides. It might wear quicker, but it won't break. It could also be the seal you put on was pushed down to far, and sometimes they will rip, but 8000 miles is a REAL long time to go for that to appear..
But he said he was getting lots of blowby?
As far as I know, leaking valvestem seals cant cause that...
I hope its nothing major, but if hes getting blowby, what else could cause that?

thats what i was wondering can blowby be cause by leaking valve seals? i dont understand how i can have a good leakdown test and 175 compression in all 4 cylinders and it be something wrong in the block it doesnt make since.
You could try to do a leakdown test with the cylinder at BOTTOM dead center, but youd have to untime the engine or just take the cams out...
This might reveal a cracked sleeve/damaged cylinder.

Or....While the engine is running and youre feeling the blowby at idle( oil cap/breather vent/etc), have someone disconnect an injector clip to disable a cylinder.
Do this to each one and see if any reduce the amount of blowby felt. If its the same cylinder with the oil burnt spark plug, Id say pull the head and pop that piston out.
