Couple months back on my 45 min ride to class, I noticed that my first couple gears were really laggy, almost seemed like I was running on 2 cylinders. Then it went away and came back intermittently throughout the trip. On my way home, it came back and didn't go away. About 10 min from home I realized the temp was on "H" for God knows how long and I pulled over in front of a gas station. I waited and checked my radiator to find it empty and filled it up with antifreeze from the gas station. It got me almost completely back when the heat started climbing again and by the time I got home and checked it again, there was no antifreeze again. I haven't driven it since. I filled it up again can't seem to notice any spots in the driveway or anything.
Has anyone else seen this problem or have any suggestions? I have a bad feeling it might be a head gasket problem or something along those lines

any smoke out the exhaust? if its a head gasket and you are loosing that much water you would be having a BUNCH of white smoke/steam out the exhaust. I would check for leaks everywhere. Start the car and let it idol to temperature and watch it to see if you can see where the water is going.

There was a lot of smoke last time I checked. Smelled like gas too so I shut it off right away. I talked to a general mechanic and told him I didn't see antifreeze on the grown ever and he said it would come out when your driving out your exhaust if it was my head gasket.
Antifreeze wont always come out of your exhaust except in an extreme circumstance. Could be a leak somewhere and ignition timing off causing the bog. If your HF is leaking badly enough to lose that much coolant it would mos definitely show up in compression test.

Compression test 195,190,190,195... nothing too odd about that. Removed the head this past weekend. Didn't find any oil in the antifreeze at all. pistons looked good. Now im kinda confused what now. Valves have a little build-up. Any suggestions. My dad seems to think the valves aren't seated right or something like that. I plan on replacing the head gasket and the thermostat since I already bought them...

Yea, replace them since you are already knee deep in it. Check the old head gasket for any marks between passages... IE: leakover from coolant to oil. Also, change your oil, and see what it looks like.... if it comes out muddy lookin, then the coolant is ending up in the block... and if the new headgasket doesnt fix the problem, then you've either got a cracked block or head.
And if the oil looks good, and the new HG doesnt take care of it, then you are looking at an external leak somewhere, and you should try some UV die and crawl under that sucker at night when a UV light...

Ok. I replaced the head gasket, thermostat, spark plugs, cap and rotor, wires, changed the oil and the anti-freeze. I went to start it up on sunday and nothing changed
It was lacking in power, sounded like a lawnmower, and white smoke came pouring out of the exhaust and from under the hood. I turned it off and pulled the plugs and after I pulled out the plug from cylinder 4, smoke came shooting out and it smoked for about 5 min. So know I don't know else the problem could be I torqued everything to spec. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm probably just going to get another motor. Any body have any lying around? or any cheap cars?

That would bother me. Hmm. Have some one start it with the hood up and you watch to see where it comes from? You said you have smoke from under the hood now? ?

My dad was watching it. I don't know if he saw where it was coming from though.
