91 HATCHBACK WITH B16 SWAP
MY QUESTION IS IM IN CALI, IS IT HARD TO MAKE IT STREET LEGAL TO DRIVE.
THE SWAP IS DONE THE MOTOR IS A B16 STAMPED WITH A 93 INTEGRA LS TRANNY STAMPED ALSO.
I HAVE A CARB APPROVED INTAKE, STOCK HEADER. ALSO A BRAND NEW CAT CONVERTER.
CAR IS NOT TROWING OUT ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED
also everyone says it sucks with the LS tranny why is that.. It would make more power with the b16 tranny?

Im being told im losing like 30 horses between the 2 trannys. Damn it, but the LS tranny does give me better gas mileage and top end, just guttless on bottom end..
The ls tranny has long gears, good for road trips ect.
But if you race, your ganna want the b16 gsr or itr tranny.
There short gears and are better for racing, arent to bad on the street and freeway.
But if your going turbo keep the ls.
But if not put that b16 tranny in.

4200@70 is not that fun for your wallet. Especially with a 2.2

As far as making the engine California legal, you need to smog it as a Del Sol Vtec motor.
That means you need convert it to OBD1 and use a US spec Intake manifold, and US-spec ecu (P30 I think) out of a 94-95 del sol vtec. Not sure what other years that car was made, but sometimes the p30 stuff can be hard to find.
your other option is to convert it to obd2 and set it up the same as a 99-00 civic Si.
In both cases, you need to hook up all the same smog equipment/manifold styles as the car you are complying to.

haha how funny, I wa just told that from someone on ebay, I would need to make it obod1 del sol vtec. I was told the stock intake manifold would not pass, so im going to get a skunk2 pro series which are street legal and are good for any b-series engine. Yeah baby yeah.
[freak] I guess I can spend a little bit of money and put in a p30 and a new dizzy...

The skunk manifold will hurt your low and mid range power. (which is pretty much non-existent as it is) B16's are best with P30 manifolds. Bigger is not always better with B16.
Keep an eye open for the USDM P30. You need it to BAR the swap. No other computer can be used. They are pretty expensive as well.

So Manny I will need to change to a P30 Ecu and a P30 usdm manifold, for now I was going to use the skunk2 proseries which is street legal on any b16-b18's after I get it bar'd I was going to throw a turbo on it.
What else would I need to do, It should be plug & plan correct (ecu)..

PR3 won't work because it didn't come on the USDM B16A. when you get it BAR'd, they don't just smog the car, they inspect the motor and ecu for the correct parts that make it USDM compliant. so even if the pr3 is chipped to a usdm program, it won't pass the visual inspection because it's not the "correct" ecu for the motor you are smogging it too.
If the ref knows what he's doing, he'll check the ecu. The jdm P30 is not legal either, and the number stamped on the sticker is different than the US-spec P30. Again, it might depend on how thorough your particular state referee is. but in my experience (at least the ref in my area), they know their **** when it comes to inspecting a swap.
the skunk2 manifold is legal though, so you can use that.

It MUST be a USDM P30 and no jumper harness. I've heard of some Ref's allowing jumpers but technically they shouldn't.
They will pull the carpet back and look at the serial number on the case. Good luck if you decide to go for it.
