93 Civic b16a2 just bought, struggling, running rich cant figure it out!
Hello all, I have a 1993 Honda civic that I just bought. It has a B16A2 swap done to it but there are a lot of problems I cant figure out. First and most importantly is the car is struggling when i step on the gas once it gets in the higher rpm's its a little better but still "misses" or stumbling. (crackles). My air fuel gauege on idle says its running as rich as the gauge goes and when in throttle its still way in the rich. Also I noticed when it does the stumbling through out the rpm's my air fuel read goes from just a little rich to lots. it fluctuates. The funny thing is some days the car has max power with no problems but 9/10 days its messed. Also my speedo is all over the place saying I go 220 km/h when im going 60. Right now there are no codes being thrown but sometimes the engine light does come on. maybe from running to rich? Im lost. I want my civic to take 5.0L's lol!
also tried unplugging throttle position sensor, Check engine light came on but symptoms didnt change. Could the tps cause stumbling and chocking through rpm band?
Check the ignition timing with a timing gun and also whether the timing belt has slipped a tooth, causing the cam and crank not to be synchronized at TDC.
Unfortunatly I cannot since I dont have the tools. Althought I have experience, and what my experience tells me is that if such a thing happened it could not happen periodically. All the time I would have the problem. Where I do not. Some days the car is perfectly fine. Others it is not. Something works then doesnt......Im not to sure at low rpm the car runs mint only once I put the car under load does is spit or cough through the rpms.

can I advance the timing or retard it the same as the old 1.6L D series or will it mess up things? Also I read about another guy having a similar problem and his speedo was going crazy like mine too could they be hand in hand? also the fluctuating air fuel mix tells me its getting two different amount of fuel and two different times tps again maybe?
sounds like you have wires cross shorting, i'd be checking the vss wires to see if they are shorted with any others. sounds like fun.
