Default Temp Switch Removal

Can anyone give me any pointers on how to remove the temp switch. I just wasted a few hours and I can't find a good angle (from top or bottom) to get it. Do I have to remove the alternator?

Thanks

Best access is from underneath. I'd put it on ramps/jack stands. If you need more room then I'd remove the oil filter, just make sure to put it back on

I tried it from underneath for while yesterday. Funny thing is, I started the car today and the fan isn't automatically running. Then, after the car warms up the fan starts working! Somehow, during my attempted removal of the switch, it started functioning properly again. Sweet! Now I have a brand new temp switch lying around the shop.

Loose wire connection or corroded wire maybe then?
