Crower stage 1 cam...results?
I've seen a few threads on here discussing the Crower Stage 2 cam, which according to Crower, requires the valvetrain to be upgraded, and possibly some tuning. They do offer a Stage 1 cam, which works with the stock valvetrain. Has anybody tried this out? What would the whp increase be? 5-10hp? The cam is reasonably priced, especially considering no other work or parts are required.
Edit: I'm refering to the d17a2

It cant possibly be worth much at all. with no extra tuning, its gotta function within the very narrow window of the stock parameters, and the car is just going to fight back. Maybe you'll get 2 HP.
For the pain in the *** it is to tear down the timing set to get it in, you might as well just get a stage 2 cam, the valve train can be swapped without taking the head off the motor.

Is it true that the stage 2 would require some tuning and an ecu piggy back? I'm looking at buying an 01 or 02 as a daily commuter car, and I'm looking at my options for modifing the car. Obviously the d17 doesn't respond well, but I'm just seeing what's been done, and what works.

Then just leave it stock.
the only thing worth doing is boosting it, and then its not the most reliable DD.
