hey guys,
who has experienced this>? my clutch disk rattles when the car idles
under 800rpm kinda like a clackaclackaclackaclacka. when I push in the
clutch it stops, when I release it continues. what is the cause of this?
This issue is intermittant, it comes and goes. Lately, more than usual.
I increased my tuning and made some more TQ... then I began to
notice it. It used to only do it when the AC compressor clutch was
engaged.
I have 13K+ miles on the clutch now HD/SS kit with an OEM ITR flywheel
in my GSR.
Any insight would be helpful!
That chatter you are hearing is the resonating/vibration of the clutch disc springs, common in aftermarket clutch kits, the first line of S2000's also had this condition and an updated disc was issued to remedy the noise.. my personal car has been doing it for years without any problems..

is it a rapid rattling or sort of chirping? mine does a rapid chirping (annoying as hell) only at low rpms and goes away when i clutch a few inches. i am pretty sure mine's just the release bearing.
not only am i getting that annoying noise, but i am getting a squeel/howl from either under the valve cover/timing belt side and i think it's either the water pump or the cam/journal. it's a lsvtec and i'm sure it's getting oil...i remember you had a problem with your cam journals. did it make a weird noise when the motor was idling? i am going to check the journals out but was just wondering about a strange noise if it made one. thanks mike.

That brings back some memories NSC, I used to remedy chirping release bearings by pulling back the rubber boot by the slave cylinder and spaying lube within the vicinity of the bearing, amazing what a little grease in the right spots can fix..
and on another note, if you hear a high pitch squeek type noise it usually a component being dried out and not getting sufficient lube.. i wouldn't suspect a bad cam journal here.. a good tip would be to get a long screwdriver or pry bar and stick one end on your ear and the other end where you suspect the noise to be, concentrate on the waterpump, alternator, PS pump, etc, the noise will be considerably louder where the problem is and will be easy to diagnose..

thanks breaker...those are the kind of tips i can use. so what should i spray for lube? i thought about greasing with some kind of extension onto the bearing but spraying the thing would probably be easiest.
I used to use the OEM Honda white lithium grease with the little straw attached to the nozzle.. I remember bending the end of the straw to give me the right spraying angle to complete my task.. : )

Its gotta be the trow out bearing,I 2 have a ACt with the same problem ss/hd with itr flywheel,(helicopter) is what comes to mind when i hear that noise. From what I understand, is if it goes on for a period of time it can take effect on the trany. It also seems as if ACt has terrible relese bearings...HTH

hmm... sounds like I should get on the ball with this...
at least I know the perfect candidate for the job
if in fact it needs to come out... MY FIRST CLUTCH
JOB!! yea. yea man, I will have the flywheel taken
off, get it machined and maybe see if I can get that
6 puck disk... and use a honda release bearing
more when I find out what the deal is. My boy Chris'
ITR with an ACT also sounds the same. I have a buddy
Joe who road races had the HD/SS and blew a spring
on a downshift (to high too soon) and ACT replaced the
disk free of charge to a 6 puck! Nadaproblemadude...
thanks for all yall chiming in, its very helpful
