Default New To Boost. *Problems*

On a 1990 CRX SI with a B16, not yet tuned. I don't think tuning would effect the problem I'm having just yet.

As of yesterday, I've finished installing a Garrett T3/T4. I've got everything mounted, and the car fired first try. I've also installed a Block guard, so i'm thinking its POSSIBLE that the timing may be off but I'm looking for more possibilities.

When the car fires, it runs at a super low idle. When I try to rev it, it takes FOREVER to climb in RPM's. It will eventually make boost but it takes around 5 seconds to even get spooled at all. I installed a boost controller so I've got it turned way down to around 3-5 PSI.

Once I let off the gas, it gets CRAZY compressor surge, and several times has shot flame out of the waste gate, and the exhaust.

Please help, I apreciate it to everyone!!

Also, I'm not sure my blow off is even opening. There's a set screw on the top, is it possible that I should have to adjust that at all as well, and there's 2 hoes ports on it, one on top, and one on the lower half of the body, I have my vacuum line hooked into the upper one, in assumption that it would be pulling the gate open. Again, thanks everybody for any help.

Joey

well, for one thing, your turbo shouldn't be building any boost while just revving in neutral. Turbos are load based, the engine has to be under load in order to build boost, unless you're driving a wrx or SRT4, which have turbos so small I could sneeze in 'em and build 10psi.

If you're building boost while just revving in neutral, sounds like your ignition timing may be a bit low.

I had no intentions of runing not tuned. lol but thanks for the heads up. I'm going to convert to obd1, and pick up a 'pre-tuned" ecu from Mainstream Perf. in GA.

um, are you sure? cuase you already said you been hitting boost untuned, and now you say your gonna pick up a pretuned ecu which is NOT the same as tuned. im just looking out man, either have it street tuned or dyno tuned, anything else is a waste of time...

Do you, or anybody else know of anyone in the western pa, eastern Ohio area who could do the tuning??

Right now I have a Spoon ECU, that i'd rather sell, and get a different one (i'm code stupid on the ECU's) to tune.

Somebody also said (sorry i forgot who) that my timing was to "low". I've never heard it put that way. I usually go by advanced or retarded. So, would you recommend i retard it so it fires more on the down stroke? Also, should I retard the exhaust cam one tooth?

So if you want to cut corners man. Realize it is not going to last. But i can give you a Idea.

What injectors are you useing?

Get some from TunerToys.com, 550 saturated. That is what i use.... Then go to phearable.net an buy the OBD1 coversion harness, an a Chipped p28. They will ask for your motor/car set up. They will give you WAY good prices an good people to work with to!

There you have it, get tyhe harness, ecu, and a base map. You MUST use bigger injectors bro. Ditch that FMU bull..... cause one day you will floor it an realize all your injectors are bad.....then come to a slow an stedy rolll....then stop lol my friend hates those things cause it caused him SO MANY ISSUES!!

...an if you already have a chipped ECU, you can use that one an buy JUST a base map chip to plug in. its like $25.00 an worth it! good luck, atlest base map your ride..

I dont want to cut corners at all. I'm VERY new to boosting. Which is why I came on here. I have no clue what FMU is meaning? haha. I have RCENG 370cc Injectors with a 1:1 - 12:1 Fuel Pressure Regulator. The man I talked to at RCENG said that would be perfectly ok. Today, I rocked my Dizzy all the way advanced (back) and it seemed to straighten up a good deal. Still doesnt rev out like i would think it should. I know it will rev slower due to having to spin the turbine now.

I'll check into the chipping and what not. I really want this car to last. I've put A LOT of time and effort into it lol.

Im new to boosting as well. But am a little farther along than you i think..... If you have the stock ECU in your car, DONT DRIVE IT. That will not make it a week if you go over 5k. Your ECU see's boost an freaks out, an if anything you want to Retard your timing like 4degrees. Dont advance it man, that is what you DONT want to do.

a FMU is a old school way to hack your car into thinking its turbo kinda sorta.... but will [freak] your coutch.

advise, Be safe, take your WG spring out an drive it easy. Till you can get tunage.

Sorry, its been a while since i've responded. My shoulder injury really did me in lol

Where do I have to look to get the basemap chip? Or go to get my car base mapped.

Also, what car did the p28 ECU come in from the factory? I live 30 minutes from an import salvage yard and could probably pick one up that way.

Thanks, and sorry for all the noob questions. I was great with cars, until this stupid turbo bug bit me lol!

p28 came from 92-95 civic ex/si hatches. Basically anything with a d16z6.

I'll let that go because you're new to boost.

Tuning = everything. Drivability, reliability, you name it, tuning will make it all or break it all.

Oh and stop revving it from a standstill.

Ok, i've got everything figured out thanks to phearable.net

My big question now, is my BOV. Its a no name, i'm assuming, and of course only going to be temporary at best. What i'm unsure of, is what the adjuster does, and where to hook my vacuum line. The top part of it, has the adjuster and one port which a vacuum COULD go on. Then on the lower part of the body there's another port, again where a Vacuum could go.

Can anybody tell me which port i should put my vacuum on. Thanks.
