CCS / ASRA Summit Point Festival of Speed May 24-26 anyone going?
Is anybody going to summit point for the races this weekend? I have a few friends racing in it, and I'm going to ride in the trackday/practice session tomorrow, then watch the races Sunday and Monday. Should be a blast, just wanted to see if any H-T's were planning on attending.
I'm only going to ride tomorrow if we leave to go there tonight, track session starts at 8am. I'm really going to watch the races, the trackday is kind of a bonus.
Awesome first day of races!
I got way too sun-burned.... Nate Kerns kills it in his BMW, damn that thing is fast.
We also just happened to be pitted next to Jeff Woods, ASRA champion last year. Awesome guy, and lives my dream life.
Forgot my damn camera, i'll put up some cell pics tomorrow.

did you see the 1098r that was there? Bad *** bike. Jensen killed it in the unlimited race at the end of the day too. They lowered the record to low 1:12 is my understanding.

Yep, Jeff Woods set a new course record yesterday with a 1:12.03 lap time. Jensen was awesome last night, I expected Woods to win, but he couldn't last, especially after the restart. There were actually a few 1098r's there.... did you see the 848?
I love that damn bike.

He set a 1:12.08 in ASRA superstock qualifying and in the Unlimited GP race at the end of the day Tim Bemisderfer, Jeff Wood and Rob Jensen were all in the 1:11s in the with Rob Jensen taking the track record. I'm trying to find the exact time though.

F*ck I just read this:

Talking to my buddies and watching it looked like a lot of people didn't belong out there who were either way off the pace or complete ******** with riding like some of the amateurs in the unlimited GP race... Terrible news though

HOLY **** HE DIED!!!!!!!!!!!
I left just after that crash..... oh my god.... RIP - 13!?! Jesus Christ.
There were a bunch of people who didn't belong out there in almost all the races, they shouldn't have the amateurs and the experts out on track together, its really not safe. Almost all the crashes or near misses I saw were due to faster guys trying to make their way through lapped traffic. I realize its damn hard to get all the races in during the weekend, but maybe they should have few races and seperate the field more.

new lap record is 1:11.7 by Robert Jensen
I agree with how much traffic there was but that wouldn't have prevented this accident. From what I've read it was a combined race USGPRU 125, formula 40 and super lightweight gp race and he ran into a guy who had his motor sieze on the first lap in turn 3. There was a yellow if not red flag but with the dust and location by the time 8-15 more bikes came around one wasn't able to avoid it and hit him. That has nothing to do with amateur/expert combined races or even the large groups, it was just a freak accident and extremely unfortunate. He was pronounced dead on scene.

It was a freak thing, like I said, the other 8 crashes I saw that weekend everyone walked away. But I still don't agree with having that many different types of bikes/skill levels on the track at the same time. We could sit here and debate about it all day long, but nothing is going to change the outcome of monday.
Someone made a pretty decent youtube tribute with pictures of him racing.
