A/C problem! Full condenser but no cool air.
I have a 96 coupe, I check the psi on the condenser and is full but i still have no cold air. I dont think that i have a leak since is full. My ? is what would be the next step to trouble shoot the a/c system?
Turn the A/C on with the engine running and look and see if the compressor clutch is engaging. If it's not check the compressor fuse in the underhood fuse block.
How full is full ?
Many a/c's I've worked on have been under/overcharged to the point where the safety pressure switches, one for high and one for low engage, stopping the compressor from running, you need to check the actual pressure in the system relative to the outside ambient temperature as the pressure gauge will vary depending on this.
the fuse is a good suggestion to look at first, but if your not really familiar with a/c systems you would doo better to take it to a good a/c shop and have them diagnose the problem.
If the compressor runs for short while then shuts off, it is usually overcharged, if it never runs it can be undercharged or lacking power to feed the clutch solenoid.
Locate the low pressure switch (on the fat suction line (blue filler) and jumper the two wires together for a few moments while the engine is running and the a/c is all switched to max, if it runs, you need a charge. Do NOT bypass the hi press sw. as it can blow lines and is very dangerous. You can get a cheap pressure gauge from your local uto store to test the pressures, it should be arround 72psi at 70 degrees F, and if running should be betwen 35/45 psi at 85/95F ambient air temp going over the condenser coil.
It's hard to diagnose these problems by proxy, but try the fuse forst, and tel us if you can get the compressor to turn at all.
