Default Rear Disc Conversion Questions...

Yeah, I searched and did not understand any of the proportioning valve stuff.

I have a 93 DX non-ABS and my rear disc conversion for it just got here from HMotorsOnline.com. I know I have to change the proportioning valve, but for what application do I order it for? I don't understand all that 40/40 stuff, so if anyone can just point me in the right direction, it would be great. This is relatively urgent, so no beating around the bush here, I just need a straight up answer... Thanks guys in advance

40/40 prop valve means that when you hit the brakes it sends brake fluid to all 4 disc evenly...meaning it'll stop faster and better...

When doing the rear disc brake swap, can I use the e-brake cables from a del sol with rear disc brakes?

I was reading in one of the threads on this site, that the proportioning valve from a 2/3 door 96+ civic cx and dx are the same as a 99-00 si? I thought they were different because the cx and dx have drum brakes. Is this true?

They are not the same. Literally just walked down into my basement and checked, as I have a 96 cx down there and two 40/40's

Why did HMotors send me e-brake cables if I don't need them?

i think its easier to use the e brake cables on the trailing arms, but when i did mine, i just used the integra ones that came with the conversion...

Ahhh, got you. Makes sense really... Its funny because I'm pretty sure my rear brakes are going to be bigger than my fronts

No No No do not use 99-2000 si valve, if you look at them, they are completly different from the 92-95 civics with rear disc.

Use the 90-93 integra 40/40 looks like this. Direct replacement.

O yea you need the e-brake cables if you have drums in the rear. Drums and disc's e-brake cables are totally diffenrt

Also, have fun when your rear end comes around and kisses the front because your brakes are too big in the rear

The proportioning valve from a 99-00 Civic SI and from a 96-00 Civic CX are the same. Go to slhondaparts, hondapartsonline, hondaautomotiveparts, and look at the part numbers.

If you are only doing a rear disc conversion and not upgrading the front brakes you don't need to screw around with the proporting valve at all, if you've added integra, or civic EX front brakes then you will need a 4040 prop valve.

you dont need to change proportional valve. If you want to then its a plus. I have rear gsr brakes for the conversion and thats all I changed.. it stops great. Just get some drill slotted rotors and racing brake pads and bleed it out.. then your set. as for the e brake cables your gonna have to use the ones that came with the brake conversion. its really easy to change but its a bitch to try and get the cables thru the center from under the car and into the interior hole for the e-brake

I'm currently in the process of this conversion on my 95 EX... You need a 15/16" master cylinder off a 91 EX sedan, which is a direct bolt in, no bending or re-routing anything. And part numbers for the non-abs SI with rear disks and my current car with drums (same as yours) are identical. No NEED to change.

You need the parking cables for a car that has rear disks... the ones you got will work with some effort, but it won't be a clean install. You'll need to order new ones from a 92-95 EX coupe/sedan WITH ABS like i did (bc they had disks) for them to install just like stock and you'll need rear brake lines for a civic/integra that had disks. the end. good luck.
