Need help finding right Shocks and Springs for Autox and Road Racing
Hey I was wondering if I could get some help. I have 92 Si that I want to start autoxing and do some road racing with. And was wondering what you guys recommend for suspensions. I heard people use Koni's with ground controls. I'm looking to spend between $800-1200 max. As far as spring rates what do you recommend? I have type R sway bars front and rear. And plan on still driving the car daily. Thanks

Off the shelf Koni single adjustables. Or, if you prefer non-adjustable shocks, get Bilsteins. 380F and 450R rates should serve you well.
I think I would prefer somthing that is a adjustable. Should I use Coil overs like Ground Controls
get eibach prokits. once you understand why you need coilovers and are willing to sacrifice the stiffness on the street for a custom setup, then buy the GC kit.
Run your car as is. Too many get into the mind set that more mods will make you a better driver. It's not. It will make you regret (in most case) running autocross cause you will be bumped into more difficult classes. Fix the driver first then decide what class you want to be in.
Lots of people get discouraged or humbled and they never come back, but if you don't care about loosing your first year, then go with the mods.

a good setup for your car would be 625fr/550rr. that is assuming you still have the a/c hooked up. if not go a little lighter. i haven't tracked my car yet, but for autocross i have a similar setup to the one i just suggested (spring rates are different to compensate for the different weight). my car is very stable with throttle lift oversteer available at any time. my car doesn't push unless you really overdrive the corner, but i don't know if that is because of excessive speed or not enough rear stiffness. ironically, i found that as i increased rear spring rate (started at 400fr 300rr) the car got MORE stable instead of less. i need more testing to finish formulating a theory as to why though.

Don't change anything and LEARN TO DRIVE. This is my first year and I have adjustable suspension (height/rebound) and I DO NOT know what settings are the best. I wish I had a stock car still and more money for a school/seat time. It's discouraging to get spanked by guys driving almost stock Ford Focuses in your B16 hatch. If you're serious about getting into racing, you'll listen to these guys that already know. I wish I found this board earlier. Later, Overkll
