Default Tranny noises? Y8

So i have recently been having trobles with my tranny on my D16y8, It makes this rubbing sound and stops when you press the clutch in and when it is driving in 1,2,3 it makes this wierd soft grinding sounding noise. So i originally thought it wast the throw out bearing so i took the tranny out (easy'r said then done) and found that the piolt bearing on the fly was siezed, so automatically i thoght that was the problem so i replaced put it all back together and it kept making that noise? anybody give ideas!!

One of the two mainshaft bearings is the two most likely source of the noise. Too bad you put it back together - a lot of work, I know!!!

Are you saying that the pilot bearing itself was not spinning and that the end of the mainshaft was turning inside of it? That wouldn't sound good and would get hotter than hell.

You could get away with the noise for a long time depending how bad the bearing is chewed up. Once it fails though - ugh what a mess. So better to fix the tranny now or swap in a good used one.

Well, being that when he depresses the plate, the noise goes away leads me to believe that it's a TO bearing. I've gone through this bs before, and replaced a bunch of bearings (needle, TO, MS) and never solved the problem...good luck op.
