Rex stories? Good idea/bad idea? Making a daily driver?
Hi, anyone got any stories of someone buying a shell, then paying for the swap right away... and it working out? not working out?
I am buying my first car.
I have about 3.2g
can i do it?
should i do it?
i want to drive it daily.
what do you think
Thank you.

i bought my 88 si for $1600. Less than a month later i swapped a b16 in. If you are doing the swap yourself, than you may be able to squeeze in under your $3200 budget, but i would suggest getting a b18b, the extra torque makes for a more fun daily driver. Also, dont rush. Look around for a good price on a rex, and dont settle for a zc if you dont want one (or d16z6). save your money if you have to, but get what you want. You will be happier in the long run!
It never works out as you planned it, i didnt buy my crx as a shell but from a auction and I ran into problems. You are always gona spend more money than you should have, unless you have been around for a while and know what your doin and where to get deals. I swaped in a sohc zc for 1000 bucks back in my non honda days, now i bet you i could get a d16 for 100 bucks.
it can and it cant work out....
get a good deal on the car that a #1
then get a B16A1 combo for about 1250....
if u swap it urself u might wanna save some bucks
then u always going to find something else thats its going to F$%^ up...
so be prepared to fix xtra stuff....
i bought my car for 1150... and i got my mini me engine for 100, rebuilded it for 300 and swaped it myself..... so it was a good deal..... but had to pay a few hundred to a mechanicn to tune it bc i had some codes.....
always prepare to hope that something its going to mess up.... anyways at the end its worthed....

But overall it will work if I have a shop do it? Can someone define rex for me? i think i have the wrong idea of what it means....
So, I found this crx for 500 bucks obo, so i get him down to 400, and buy it, i dont think it has an engine.... i tow it to a good shop, pay them 2500 for a gsr swap, and then save t he 300 for extra problems?
it should work?
any more stories i know more of you have swapped it would help me alot

There are a lot of things that you need to consider. If you get an HF you will have to change out the front hubs to do a B-series swap. If you get a DX you will have to convert to mpfi. And of course with any B-series swap you will have to get a mount kit. Then you drop in the motor and tranny and find out you need a new clutch, water pump (this happened to me) or a front seal. These are the things that add up. Since you have 3,200 to spend you can figure that you have about 2500 - 2800 to spend on the car, motor and mounts. The rest will be needed for the issues that always arise.
Good luck with what ever you decide.

How did that work out for you, you got a b18 for only 1g? nice.... so you've put in 2219$ and its worked great? etc.?

Hmm, let me see how much i have from my next paycheck... runs like a champ right. You expect it to run well for another 3-4 years?

I only paid 200 bux for mine...but it was wrecked...pretty bad...but I found some people who did some of the harder body work for really cheap...actually the only thing I PAID to have done was the body pulled...150 bux...and here it is about 1k later..after buying new doors, hood, fender(which really sucked...is held on with zip-ties at the bottom), headlight(DR), and tail light which you can't see...also, the rear bumper was banged up pretty bad, but the guy that helped me put all the stuff on was nice enough to mold it back into place with a heat gun...
Hopefully have it back to Rio Red by the end of the summer along with new wheels and tires...and exhaust.
