hey guys i got a 1999 civic ex with a d16y8 with only about 40k miles on it and i was wondering what every1 thought was the best thing to do to get more power. i have about 3-3500 to spend for everythin .. i want to make around 200-225whp so does every1 think a motor swap is in need or wat about turboing the d16y8 ? let me kno and if any1 has stuff for sale that i could use to accomplish this goal let me kno to thanks

 

I would do a motor swap, more potential in a bigger motor.

 

I hope you have some kind theft deterrent before you dump money into it. 40k miles seems like a great condition civic

 

I say boost it @ about 8-10psi, you'll run 230WHP all day on a good tune. That motor is too fresh to swap out just yet I think. I would work on the footwork (suspension/wheels/tires/brakes/etc.) before doing power though.

 

build a nice turbo kit and and the Y8 and you could pull a good 300whp out of that Single for around $3000 considering that you know how to work on your own car.

 

Turbo the y8 for a motor swap your looking at 30 more hp for 3 g's. Turbo it.

 

swap in a b series, say around 2000, sell the D for 750-1000, got nearly half what you spent back already, so your at 2250, left, that would be enough to turbo the B and be up to around 300whp instead of 220whp.

 

Keep the y8 and Boost it... your not looking for mass power.. You just want to be quick.. Your saving your self a lot of time and money.. Plus u might have some change left to buy other lil things u might need in the process.. If u decide to swap in another motor. Just kno what your getting your self into..

 

i was looking at the edelbrock turbo kit has any1 used it or heard anything about it ?

 

you can piece one together, better and a lot cheaper.

If you look around in the forced induction for sale forum you can find lots of good brand used stuf for good deals.

 

alrite ill give it a look.. how much does tuning cost usually?

 

all depends on what you use and who is tuning but I would use neptune for a tune and usually 300-600 for tune depending on tuner and dyno time.

 

If its your DD i think i would rather swap in a dependable B and bar it.

But i think you should build up some suspension first though.
