Default k24?

so, a local guy has a k24 that he built for a turbo to put in his ep3. it was from a crv and doesn't have the vtec head. he is trying to sell this (along with original internals) for a pretty reasonable price. being an opportunist, i would like to try to put the k24 bottom end under my head. i am not planning on trying to turbo the engine, just na with more grunt. --------------------the point of the thread is, would it be worth trying to get that bottom end without any way to tune it (i.e. kpro)?i thought about a tsx ecu since it's drive by wire to, but meant for the 2.4 liters. any idea?

if its a steal of a deal, why not? the k24/k20 is the new ls/vtec!

9.0:1 pistons, rods, headwork (i.e. ported head, valves and springs). he has all the stock internals as well. obviously i wouldn't have any use in the pistons for what i would want to do, but stepping up displacement is appealing. i am just not sure if i would be able to get this combo running properly (ecu). any suggestions?

i've been trying to research this same thing and as far as i know you should be able to run the bottom end with the SI ecu.

things I wonder about is if the mounts are exactly the same. and piston to valve clearance.

also with the low compression pistons that are in the block you're looking at you may not be too happy with it. you'd definately get the bump in tq but the top end may be lacking.

u wont be able to tune ur motor to run right if u run the stock SI ecu..u would need to somehow convert to cable type instead of DBW and use a rsx ecu and kpro that to be able to tune it correctly

you lose your speedo/gauge cluster if you don't use the Si ECU. MAF fuel injection has the ability to adjust to minor changes, but I don't know if it can adjust for .4L of extra displacement without using AEM FiC or something along those lines.

he wasn't sure what ECU to run just for the sake of the swap. you'd obviously need some kind of tuning capability.

i wasn't planning on using the 9:1 pistons, i figured, barring any clearance issues, i would use the 11:1 pistons i already have. i assumed the stronger rods wouldn't hurt. i was planning on using my head/intake manifold/oin pan(if it would fit with the engine being a little bigger). the tuning is my main concern. i just need a way to make it run right. i don't want to give up my 8000 rpm redline and not see a pretty good bump in performance.

you're talking about the pistons out of the K20? if so they wont work in the K24. different bore sizes.

...yeah, i guess not. okay, i could bump the compression a little with the crv pistons...
