ITR=shorter (IMO better) gearing, lsd stock
GSR=longer gearing (lower highway revs), no lsd

You could just buy a quaife LSD and put it in the gsr tranny or even put an LS 5th gear in either of the trannies for lower highway revs. If you plan on taking it to the track, the GSR may be better if you have to shift into 5th before the end of the 1/4. You probably already knew most of this but i'm saying it for other people who check out this question looking for the advantages of both.

My vote goes to the ITR tranny.

Same final drive for both. Depends upon whether or not you want the torsen LSD or upgrade to a higher model. If it is a JDM ITR transmission, final drive is 4.785 as opposed to 4.4. For turbo, either one could work.

If your going for something to just drop in...go with the itr. Great gearing and lsd. If you wanted to rebuild it. Get the gsr and drop in the quaife lsd.

I came in first place in Ninja Warrior, so now im baller status.

Well price is always a concern but im not to worried about it. Im actually going to buy one of the trannys at the dealers. The last used tranny i got was doo doo....was told it was fine and smooth..... drove 2 1/2hrs to pick it up and 3rd grinds and pops out. So i dont want to go through that hassel again. Im really leaning towards the ITR.....but i have copule of months to think about it. Thanks for all you guys input.

Bummmmp.

I really want to hear more on this subject. I'm looking at putting together a fully built GSR motor, looking to put down 450whp, and I want to have a tranny with the best gear ratios...

...preferrable one that's taller than a b16, (so I don't spin horrible from 1st to 3rd,)but shorter than an LS. Anyone else have more insight??

boost by gear my friend keep the b16 trans, you'll regret getting rid of it

*EDIT* Plus its a 4cyl there made to rev, im taching 3752rpm @70mph with my b16 trans. A gsr would still be taching 3482rpm @70 so there's not much of a difference with interstate drives

x2. Either one could really work. I would prefer the gsr tranny just because of the gearing. The only downfall is the ITR LSD. That is the only reason I would say type r. But if you are getting an aftermarket LSD, I would say GSR.

If its a 98 spec or newer JDM ITR tranny it has the 4.7, 96-97 JDM ITR's had the 4.4

I'm running a B16 1,2,3 and a GSR 4,5 with a 4.40 and a Quaife and I love it, I had an LS in the car since I bought it almost 5 yrs ago...... and I was damn near dead hooking 3rd gear on the street at 23psi on 205/50/50 BFG's, now with the B16/GSR gears I am lucky to hook 4th off the WG spring.

However the LS gearing is just so horrible for a B-Series VTEC motor, my car now feels like it should, I always thought something was truly missing and I now know it was the tranny...... I would say for under 450whp go ITR above go GSR

if the transmission is going in a daily driven car on regular tires then gsR all day, the taller gears will give better traction on the street compared to an itr and will relate to being a "faster" car on street daily driven tires

Right now I am running a JDM 98 spec ITR tranny with 600whp setup, we allready changed the final drive to the older JDM ITR 4.4 and it is STILL too short geard for a hi hp boosted motor. I vote for GSR with quafe LSD, that`s what I`m getting next.
