BRAKES FAILED ON ME WHILE DRIVING

94 hatch gsr swap
while driving home from work my brakes was working fine for about a mile. Then when a car in front stopped i stepped on the brakes firmly. didnt slam on it. while stepping on it, it stopped half way and then completly went loose and i had no brakes
. luckily i pulled the hand brake so i dont hit the car in front. i pulled over turned it off. then i stepped on it a couple times and it got stiff. so i started it up again and tried to see if it work but then same thing happened again and after that it was completely OUT. drove home with no brakes because i had to go take a test at my night class. the brakes work slightly if pressed all the way down. but i think thats just only the drums in the rear. help if you can because this is my only ride to work and school.
to my knowledge i think that it could be the brake cylinder wore out or the linkage went out of place.
or someone with bitchassnes cut my lines during the day. car is slammed though kind of hard to reach the brake lines. iunno gotta go.

This has happened to my clutch before but never the brakes. Mine ended up being the master cylinder so I am guessing that is the first thing you should replace.

cool thanks thats what i thought it couldve been too. crazy it happened at an intersection, almost hit a car and an old man.

it sounds like the brakes still work but they are just very hard. if it was the master cylinder u would get no brakes. its the brake booster cause u still have brakes but they are just real hard to operate. i work at a dealer and i just had a car come in like that last week, i replaced the brake booster and viola fixed. let me kno how it turns out.
