Default QUESTION: GSR SWAP w/ LS CRANK RODS.PISTONS! (+2dr-4dr Seat ?)

I am going to be doing a GSR swap into my dc2 project. I want to use GSR block, GSR Head, GSR Transmission, with a LS Crank, LS Rods, LS Pistons.

My buddy is doing the same thing in his EK. (Got The Idea From Me - What A Biter)

Anyways... He is having epic-tuning (local reputable shop) build his block for him. They told him since your putting LS crank, Eagle Rods, CP Pistons in the car, it's going to need custom sized main bearings. I don't understand the reasoning behind that though.

So what my question is....

If i use GSR Swap, LS crank, LS rods, LS pistons. Will i have to use custom sized main bearings? I don't see the logic behind this, unless the gsr crank itself is just simply a different size length/gap wise that is going to affect the spacing of the crank to the block/surrounding parts.

Hope this was clear enough :D I can explain more if anything was confusing.

Also, will 4dr rear seats fit in a 2dr?

ARGH, I totally know the answer to that, but I forgot it.

I recall having to use the Ls rod bearings and GSR main bearings and thrust washers.

4 door rear seats will not fit a 2 door.

edit: Unless it was ls rod and main bearings with gsr thrust washers. I can't remember for the life of me.

--- I'm just trying to figure out if im just going to do the LS.V or just go with GSR Swap and the LS crank.

If you remember or any other techies know, please fill me in. I was thinking it would have to be LS Rod bearings, gsr thrust and mains.

Also, would these just have to be STD size? I am thinking the reasoning behind my buddy having to get custom size main bearings is he is using aftermarket pistons and rods.

The only time you're only going oversized with the bearings is when it's messed up and they have to slightly bore it out. Before buying the bearings, have someone inspect it to make sure there's no extra boring needed.

--- Even if your using/mixing/Frankensteing b18c1 block with b18b1 internals? If your 100% sure i will take your word for it. I just need to know for sure, before i go and put everything in my gsr block and end up messing something up.

Stock GSR girdle will be fine, but definately balance any build when installing new pistons, or any other parts.

Read the above, lots of BS but some good info also.
I decided to plug up the oil squirters.

--- Wow, there was definitely a lot of retards on that thread haha. What are the benifits of plugging the oil squirter's on the block besides for high oil pressure?

It is a fun little build. Im building another block, I think I'll do the LS internals again, but this time run 82mm PR3's for a bit more CR.

There's no benefits plugging up the oil squirter's because there'd be less cooling.

HOWEVER, this has to be done if you want to fit in the LS crankshaft. Otherwise it won't fit. If you keep reading, some guy wanted to keep his squirter's and tried to custom it, but no matter what it would always hit something. So he had no choice to take it out.

Yeah, plugging them allows the clearance of the LS crank, but the LS rods have oil journals that the GSR rods don't have, so its pretty much a wash when it comes to oil cooling and pressure.

--- Didn't see that.
So i guess my goal/plans are to GSR Block, LS Crank, LS Rods, LS Pistons, Eliminate Oil squirter's, b18c1 thrust washers, b18c1 main bearings, and ls rod bearings.

and...

I should be good to go!?!?

while you're in there, get arp rod bolts and head studs.

AND if you are to stay all motor, get rid of the Ls pistons and go with the itr or p30's.

What's your HP goal, cause I've seen a couple mid 300 whp boosted builds on cast pistons. After 350 whp though, I would suggest forged pistons to prevent ring gland failure

I'm gonna be boosting soon too.

Hoping to do a rebuild on my engine and add arp rod bolts and head studs with a cometic headgasket. but this probably won't happen until sept =/

--- I am going for 325-350 on stock block and internals. Once i get my new turbo set up put on and tuned etc. I am going to get bottom end parts and run 400-425 on stock sleeves with pistons, rods etc etc.

My set up was going to be Ls.V but now is gsr swap.

gt30r/gt35r or precision equal t4
3in Ic piping
3in dp out to the rear
t4 inline pro mani
44mm tial wg
44mm type r bov
itr cams (itr valve train/supertech)

arp rod bolts
arp head studs
blox intake (untill victory x)
itr tb

w.e i forgot but thats off the top of my head.

I honestly think the 35r is over kill. 30r should be cool, but I honestly wouldn't wanna mess with a ball bearing due to cost of rebuild.

why not look into a journal bearing?

--- Journal would be a lot cheaper, but it's whatever i have readily available to me when im buying everything. I'm not really concerned about the 400rpm spooling difference it gives. (not really sure to be exact on spooling difference)
