Default GSR TURBO SYSTEM SETUP

i want 2 turbo my 98 gsr.. i only want 5-7psi so im hopeing i can do it simply and safe, reliable, cheap.. idealy i am hopeing to NOT have to get it tuned anytime soon and be able to safely drive it daily. i want it to be safe to the engine/turbo/car most important.. second reliability is important.. third i want it cheap as possiable.. i know that safe , cheap and reliable in a turbo system is not easy to come by, if at all possible.. im just looking for some advice as to the best system and ideas.. im looking to buy used parts [hopefuly all good], to keep cost a little lower.. i have a little knowledge in this, but ive been outta everything 4 a few years, so im rusty on my info.. THANKS JM

FAQ's are your friend.

If you are not looking to get it tuned, don't go turbo at all!

not if you're looking for it to be safe and reliable, without being piggishly rich and making carbon build up on the pistons.

Can't have cake + ice cream and eat it without utensils, if you get what I mean.

if you run stock ecu and injectors only to the tuner, don't get in boost at all, yeah.

i'm sure there's a tuner near you. see the directory.

tuning prices depends on the tuner id say the average street tuning is about 75-90$/hr and assume atleast 3hours of tuning or so

sounds like u got alot to figure out before u even have to worry about how much tuning is going to cost tho like an actual power goal

im looking for less of a "power goal" and more so just want a safe reliable system, like 5-7 psi is fine..

Well, you HAVE to base it on a power goal. 5-7psi will mean completely different numbers and characteristics on different turbo's. Not everything, in fact nothing really matters as far as psi goes until you have figured out what setup you want to stick with. Figure out what turbo you want, and figure out how much power you want.

Yes, the search is down, but you CAN find threads on google as well. This has been covered so many times it's ridiculous.

Oil feed and return, injectors, depending on power level fuel upgrades (Walbro 255)

For tuning, a form of tuning software, whether you go with crome, hondata s200, s300, You need different things. looks like crome MIGHT be your best bet though because it seems you are very conscious of funds.

http://www.pgmfi.org READ READ READ, and research for hours and hours and you will figure it out.

Look in the marketplace for used parts as well. Good Luck

AND once again it goes back to the question of the power goal. T3/T4 has MANY different designations.. I have a feeling you're looking for the 250-300whp level only. PSI means nothing with the wrong turbocharger. Have you checked other setups to see what may work for you? Check w/ Schister66 and his setup. Might be what you're looking for.

didn't we say to start reading the FAQs?

I mean, if you haven't looked at those yet, you REALLY REALLY SHOULD. Then you'd answer your own questions with a little research.

Handing you info on a silver platter won't help you if you come across a common problem while boosting.

Well, it's very simple actually. maybe this is the problem with so many repetative questions in here; maybe they just can't find the FAQ's page!!!
List of instructions...

1. Click on the forced induction forum page
2. Click on the first stickied post titled Forced induction forum FAQS.

I know, it's tough....

When attempting a turbo project, it is wise NOT to cheap out with used parts. Buy new products that way you KNOW what you're getting. There are tons of good turbo parts and accessories right on this website (sponsor's forum) at nice affordable prices. Conduct some more searching, talk to some of the gurus on here thru PM or e-mail, check out some of the many build threads right in this FI forum and good luck with the build.

Keep looking. Search is your friend. Use keywords on things you wanna know about. There's tons of info on here, it just takes a little time. But sit back and READ, READ, READ, you'll find the answers you're looking for.
