Radiator Fan / A/C Fan
Good evening all,
I recently removed all of my A/C components (compressor, condenser, evaporator), everything but the wire harness. Today I removed the harness and found that the green clip (pic attached) was hooked up to my radiator cooling fan. The fan did work properly. This car is a new purchase and a few other adapters have been plugged in improperly (eacv into the TA sensor). I figured that the A/C fan power was plugged into the radiator cooling fan harness. I found another adapter floating in the bay that could have been the cooling fan power, as the A/C compressor was not hooked up to power when I removed it). I continued to remove the A/C harness and hooked the mystery adapter up to the cooling fan. The fan works, but it works constantly. As soon as I turn the key it starts running. The temp gauge works fine but the fan won't quit turning. The second picture is of adapter that is now plugged into the cooling fan. Sorry, I cannot figur out how to make the photos bigger. Any advice is great.

it sounds like a stuck relay or someone just wired up the fan to be on all the time. if you have a meter, you can find what's wrong and fix it.
any plans for the a/c parts??

Well, first of all, is this the correct plug for the cooling fan? It was the only vacant adapter. I don't have a meter, but I will try to get one soon. Is a stuck relay repairable and I have no plans for the a/c parts. I assume that they are all good but it wasn't hooked up so I yanked it all out.
No my fan is hard wired in, so as soon as i turn the key it turns on, and wont go off till i turn the key off, i wouldent trip over it. Just keeps ur car cooler.
Doesent hurt anything.

per the factory manual for cars w/o air con
run switched 12v to power the fan
use the temp switch on back of block as a ground switch for the fan.
very very simple
when you remove all the a/c wiring (properly) you should take all the rad fan wiring too because its integrated in the same harness

find the thermo switch behind the block (should be a big brass sensor with 2 prongs covered with a big black boot. unplug one of those and then turn on the ignition and see if it stops. i have had this problem most likely the thermo switch is bad as its always on the on position.
i just bought a new one from the dealer for around 30-40$

If I removed the radiator fan wiring too, then what is it plugged into now? The plugged I am using now comes out of the same wire bundle that the radiator relay is hooked up too. But, when it was hooked up to the power in the a/c harness it worked properly and only came on when it was supposed to. I'm confused because it was wired into the a/c relays and I thought just the a/c power plugged into the wrong fan.

I'm concerned because the fan was working properly before I removed all of the a/c wiring and now that I have it hooked up to what I thought was the proper plug, it runs constantly.
Update:
My temp switch has a red/wht and grn/wht but the diagram I have says it should have a yellow/grn. I'm confused. How do I run a switch so my radiator fan is not on all the time? The whole point of pulling the a/c was to save some weight and increase MPG. Won't my MPG be hurt if the fan is running constantly?
Thanks

yes your mpg will suffer slightly as the fan draws power from the alternator. it will also take longer to warm up, which means it will run richer longer, using more gas.
i would double check your wires, temp switch, and diagram, then try to troubleshoot it. it should be a relatively easy fix

I reattached my a/c wire harness and, as it turns out, the fan still runs constantly. I guess it has always done this so it must be the temp switch. Funny thing is, I still avg about 40mpg and even more. I got 46.51mpg on a 5 hour road trip two weeks ago. I do believe it is running rich because I smell gas. Thanks for the advice, I will look for a temp switch.
Thanks

Hehe. I don't believe it has much to do with luck. Perhaps more with sacrifice. I do not have a stereo, nor do I have any climate control (it busted) and never drive over 65mph. Also, I just put the stock rims/tires on it and I'm getting about 50mpg now.
I commute to school about 75 miles a day and it really helps.

It is a 90 crx dx. I don't need the parts. I'm assuming that they are functional. I have every thing but one of the hoses, as it broke during removal. Perhaps you can come to the Auburn area and get them.
