Default Car wont start .

I pulled the engine and tranny to paint the engine bay now i have every thing reinstalled and it wont start . The battery is fine . I turn the key and absolutley nothing happens . Here is where i may have gone wrong . The fuse box under the hood on the front side of it there is a ground cable to thte starter and the other wire from the alternator . And of coarse there is power to the starter from the battery . Is that how its supose to be hooked up ?

All the fuses are good as far as i can tell . The lights wont even come on with every thing hooked back up ? I guess that may be an entirely different problem but i thought it would help.

Any positive insight would help . Thanks .

make sure you have the signal wire to the starter hooked up. its the small female "spade type" conector that plugs into the male "spade type" on the starter.

all in all there are two wires that go to the starter. the main cranking power wire and the signal wire.

good luck.

Well the fuses can look good but be bad a small break or hair line split
that is VERY hard to see..
I hope you got it going and dont need this info
but my 2 cents

if nothing at all happens, and it does have power, in my experience its a grounding issue.

i have no clue what motor you're using, but check the tranny ground, thats been the culprit for me.

i didnt even think about that. instrument is right. you have probably painted over all of you grounds.... sand 'em down then hook 'em up.

to check it, turn the ignition on and check the voltage between the negative on the battery and somewhere on the engine. if its over 1.0v, ground your engine better....

if that doesnt work, ill tell you how you can quickly check your starter.

I GOT IT !!!! Its simple os i feel dumb but i got it . i had power to the starter and then with a piece of sterio equipment i spliced the power to the fuse box . The wire to the box was black , so i assumed it was a ground and because it had never been taken from the fuse box i was sure it was a ground wire . That was dumb . so instead of tring to ground it i put opwer to it and the car started .

Maybe i should have paid more attention in engine theory class .

but while we are on the topics of grounds . do any of you know the effects of a poorly grounded angine ?

a poorly grounded engine can have all kinds of driveability problems. one time a buddy of mine had a super clean 93 GSR and he put a just put a new motor in and the motor was grounded by the body wasn't, and when he turned on his healights the speedo melted! its because the speedo cable was the only connection to B- and it was way to much amperage for it and it got HOT.

and for eguti66, the check if your starter is bad or the control system for the starter is bad... jump the signal wire on the starter (male spade connector) to the main power input (12mm nut with rubber insulator). this can be done with a screw driver or whatever. (basically, you just need to get 12v to the signal input for the starter) if it cranks, the starter is good to go. if not, diag from there.
