If you have a manual trans, pick up a manual ECU.
If you have an auto and are simply trying to get rid of the CEL, why not find the problem.
OBD2 ECUs can not be converted from auto to manual like OBD1 ECUs can.

the thing is i need the ecu for my emissions test! some one told me that i need the ecu that came with my car because it has the vin in the ecu that the obd2 reader will see. can anyone confirm this fact or myth? any one here with experience on emissions testing in VA? any advise would be helpful

Honda ECUs have no clue what the VIN is. (pre2002 for sure, not sure about later versions)
In VA, No CELs = pass.
Get a manual ECU and drive on it for a few days to clear the readiness flags, then take the test.

If ur afraid there going to check the numbers on the ecu keep the orig. ecu and get a manual ecu and just switch out the boards. Its a lil bit of a pain in the as but its poss. my friend did in up in Redding,CA. to pass the B.A.R.
