Stupid little DX VTEC
Okay i have to do this **** for my friend cuz his D16Z6 is just about shot. I think the nitrous finally took it's toll on his rings cuz he just smokes a lil now. I just needed to know what is the difference in the combustion chamber volume between a 96+ DX head and the D16Z6's head. I was gonna do a little mini-me on it cuz i figured it's probably the easiest and cheapest way to save this little motor. Will his compression be around the same as he has now which i think is like 9.2:1 or be lower or higher. I just don't want it to turn out that the DX head has a bigger combustion chamber than the Z6 so that his compression will drop any more. I really don't want to **** with swapping to the newer year head. I just am telling him to do this cuz he's cheap, but I have a 98 DX block that he can have. So if anyone can tell me about the C/R I would be very happy... Thanks in advance.
I would assume (sorry, no factual data here) that the pistons should be similar between the D16y7 and the D16z6. I know that the VTEC head on the D16y8 is supposed to be shaped better for more power (hence the spectacular 2hp gain from the 5g to the 6g).
As far as what will happen the compression, if your friend is cheap, what difference does it make
If the compression is higher (and it wouldn't be by much) then he gets a bit more power. If it's lower, tell him he can run more NOS.
Hope this offers some insight.

Okay that's cool then thanks. If both heads have the same volume then the DX block with the Z6 head will have the same compression as the DX orginally came with....thanks for the help
