Default My AC compressor doesnt Engage

hey guys,
i bought the car last year with my AC system not working. the first thought was it needs charge. well i never got around doing it, so tommorow im gonna take it to a mechanic to recharge it for me.
my question is, if there isnt enough gas in there, could that be the reason its not working? and how much does the recharge cost?
thanks in advance

There is a reason for it not having any freon in the system. There might be a small leak somewhere. The AC system has a pressure switch that will only engage the AC system if it has enough freon in it.

well if you lucky and reason your ac compressor is not engaging is low freon pressure then my recommendation is to take it to an ac place and have them pull a vacuum and see if it will hold. what's the used on paying them to pump in freon when there might be a chance for it to leak out later on and you're back to square one.

if they say you don't need to pull a vacuum when pumping freon take it somewhere else. they are not doing it the proper way. any real ac place will at least vacuum out the hose and check to make sure it can hold a charge.

Any real a/c place will never pull a vacuum on a known leaking system. if you pull a vacuum on a known leaking system you will introduce noncondensables. always leak test with positive pressure. only after the leaks are fixed you change the filter drier and pull a vacuum to remove moisture and any noncondensables.
