Mini-Me Questions
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and I have a '90 CRX that I am going to do a mini-me swap to. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find in any of the Mini-me write-ups. First of all, I am going to us a Y8 head, not a Z6. Since I'm using a Y8 head, do I use a Y8 timing belt? Also, whats the best head gasket I can use? I read on the write-up that the Y8 head gasket is probably the best. Thanks for the help. - Dave
The z6 and the Y8 belts are exactly the same. Buy which ever one is cheaper. Just DON'Tt use the A6 belt. It's best to use a cam gear with the set up as the combo will throw the cam timing off.
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it, maybe you can answer this other question: I heard there is a 'special' ARP head stud kit for the A6 block with the Y8 head. Does this special kit exist or is there something else I can do?
The timing will only be off if a 1.5L bottom is used. It is always best to match the timing belt to the head. As for the head gasket, the Y8 one is cheaper (Majestic Honda).
I have not heard of a special ARP headstud kit for a mini-me.

Not neccessarily for any mini-me but one of which for an A6 with a Y8. I read it on one of the past threads on here. Heres the link: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2223545 Read the 6th post

Sorry but this is not correct. I ran a a6/z6 and the timing is off about 3 degrees, which is a good amount. I've dyno tuned a couple of mini-mes and the cam timing will be off. There are no special head studs. I used ARPs on mine and they are the same for all sohc d-series.

quick input, from front of the car the bolt in the left upper corner by the dizzy is a shorter head bolt, and the y8 timing belt has 1 extra rib on it, i used the z6 and it was really tight, y8 fit great

I believe the extra rib comment is incorrect, timing belt rib count as follows
A6 (and 88-95 nonvtec)=106 ribs
z6&Y8 (and y7)= 104 ribs
VX= 103
