Default changed pads: soft pedal, lost some fluid

After changing brake pads the bedal was VERY soft but firmed up, I did notice some fluid leaking onto the garage floor from the drivers side under the master cylinder. Why is it doing this? Help...

Does it just need to be bled more or is something else wrong? Why did fluid leak?

If you didn't open any of the brake lines there is no need to bleed unless you already have air in your lines.

The reason you had brake fluid on your garage floor is due to the fact that when you compressed the pistons in the calipers you moved brake fluid back up into the master cylinder and it overflowed. It is no big deal. It almost always happens when changing pads.

Pump the brakes a few times before taking it for a drive and relax. Everything is going to be all right

You probably lost fluid when you put the new pads in. If your reservoir was topped off it overflowed when you pushed the pistons in to install the new (thicker) pads. Clean all the oil up (eats paint) and check again for leaks. Also you must bleed your brakes real good in the correct order. I believe it was right rear, left front, left rear then right front. Double check in a factory service manual. Don't drive it if you have any doubts.

Kenji, that is exactly what happened I just realized. So there is no need to bleed the brakes after losing some? Do I need to top off the reservoir if it is low? (I don't think it will be)

Thanks for the help.

make one of these...I just made one...a Home Depot special.

the pedal feel is quite noticably firmer.

I just bedded in the Endless CC-X pads and they feel INCREDIBLE. I will write up a full review in the next few days.

My brake pedal is feeling soft with some travel before bite - do I need to bleed the brakes or will this firm up over the next few days?

Bleeding is never a bad idea.

Just to reiterate, the bleeding order is not important whatsoever.

I'm not familiar w/ any Endless pads....but maybe they need to be heated up to work properly?
