high idle
hey i started my 91 civic si with a new setup
gsr block, .5 over type r pistons, gsr rods, b16 head stock with port and polish and a obd0 ecu stock. it was hard to start because when i cranked it over it would make a grinding noise but not like a starter grinding noise. it finally started up and it idled at 3000 rpm when i pulled off the smaller vacuum line on the throttle body the rpms lowered and blew a lot of white smoke. what's going on, could it be because of the ecu.
also i have a oil pressure tester hooked up the the oil pressure sending unit the line is like 8 feet long and im not getting any oil pressure even with the car running for a minute. it has a new oil pump and o ring, and pickup tube and gasket. and there is smoke inside the head because it comes out the oil cap with it off. it has new valve stem seals

I meant Oil Pump. and maybe the grinding is from lack of oil somewhere
and I wouldnt be worried about the idle so much as the burning oil, zero oil pressure, and grinding noise.
I would tear that motor down again if I was you.
but for the idle issue maybe your throttle cable is too tight and holding the throttle body open a bit, or a vaccum leak, FITV,or IACV.

huh well the thing is i pulled the oil pan out and oil came draining out of the pick up tube, also oil came draining out of the oil pump when i pulled that off. so could it be that the line for the oil pressure tester is long so it might take a while to pressurize
I'm not sure, but was the oil light on the dash lit? I believe that light comes on with 0 oil pressure.
maybe you arent getting oil pressure cause of the oil leak.

ive looked everywhere and there is no leak. it blew a little bit of smoke when i first started it then it went away and then when i pulled off the vacuum line that goes to the small inlet on the throttle body,(the one closest to the front of the car) it blew a lot of smoke.
i bet it didnt grind the first time you tried to crank it. it probably cranked and then grinded? thats normal. that just means you didnt wait long enough between the cranks or your cranking it too long.
could be it, like a week ago when i started the motor for the first time i didn't have any grinding noises, it almost sounds like a relay or something sparking or something because i've heard a starter grind and thats why i got a new starter a little before the old engine blew. some times it wont make the noise though. im going to get a compression tester today and see if the head gasket is fine. as for oil, i t has to have oil because the car sat for a day and it had only been ran for a few minutes before and oil came draining out of the pump so there had to have been oil pressure. im going to clean and adjust the screw on the iacv today and do a compression test

Oh, okay. you made it sound alot worse.

so i pulled the intake manifold off and guess what i saw. oil all in it. when i put the head together i installed the valve stem seals the wrong way so they didn't seal properly, there was oil in all 4 runners because i did each seal the same way. so im going to take it all apart and try again and this time get a 81.5 mm hg and hondata intake gasket and maybe some type r cams if i can find some
