Default reverse light question????

so here's my scenario....i've got a 93 del sol with a b16a swap, about two weeks ago i was told that i didn't have my reverse lights anymore. i did some research and learned that it was probably my back up light switch on my tranny, so i changed it, still nothing. i checked all my wires and have power everywhere except at my light sockets. i've read that it could possibly be a ground somewhere, but if it was a ground, wouldn't that mean that i wouldn't have taillights, brake lights or turn signals...which all of those work. all this seems strange seeing how i just painted my car and took the taillights out (of course), and they stopped working after the painting process was done. wondering if there could be any connection (or rather no connection ) between those two things. oh yeah and both fuse are good as well as the bulbs, check 'em both at least half a dozen times. anyone have any ideas?

fairly sure it's not my alt., i've got a volt gauge and it never rises above 12-13 volts. also my bulbs are all good...but back to this ground thing. a few people have told me to check my grounds, but if my grounds were loose or bad, wouldn't that mean my other lights wouldn't work? there's only one plug on the back of the taillights so doesn't that mean there should only be one ground for the plug?
