breaking bolts.......
ive noticed that alomst every second bolt on my 97 civic sedan will break off at the head.... especially on my trailing arm/control arm etc etc etc. anyone else have this problem?? any good solutions to freeing up siezed nuts and bolts??
Before you start doing work on your suspension you should spray all the hardware with something like PB Blaster a week ahead of time on a daily basis. It should help. But you do live in Halifax, lots of salt, lots of moisture, lots of rust.
For the at home guy, freeing them up can be a pain, rust penetrant can have some effect. An impact gun is ideal, you might tear the head off, or it might come loose, if it tears off just use a bolt extractor, since the clamp load is now gone, it will be much easier to remove. To me if that fails, you can try using an air hammer or cut off wheel and chop the nut part off, and tap it out. Torch is the last resort, but a guaranteed victory XD.
