I was traveling on the freeway @ about 80 mph. When the engine suddenly died. I try to give it gas, but it continued to stall and shot out patterns of black smoke. Made it to the side of the road. Unable to start the car. Engine rotated, but would not start. When trying to start some black smoke was emiitted. Checked the timing belt, spark plug wires and those were fine. Please give me some advice.

 

Check whether the timing belt skipped a few teeth and compression check the cylinders.

 

What kind of car? check the rotor in the distibutor, the bolt falls out sometimes.

wow, so if puff black smoke? check oil. did the intake suck something in or something?

 

Do you have spark ?
I'm thinking ignitor

 

looks like its backfiring...check your distributor?...maybe ur ignitor coil went bad?
