The thermostat in my d15 went bad and I blew the headgasket. I am away at college, I live about 45 mins from home.

I have the new headgasket and thermostat waiting for me at home but I need to drive home in order to fix it, It would be too costly to tow home.

I also managed to put a hole in my radiator, so the system doesnt hold water either.

What is the best way to drive it home, without risking it blowing, because I risk washing out the bearings and whatnot, My dad recomended that I take out the bad thermostat completey and just let it run like that.

Any suggestions?

 

Push the car in neutral or have someone pull it with a truck. If your radiator does not hold water your car WILL overheat and you will probably end up needing a new engine.

 

well. heres my suggestion. having a new headgasket with a hole in the radiator serves no purpose.

you'll just blwo another headgasket.

So. get a new radiator, have a friend drive you to parents house, get the head gasket/thermostat, friend drives you home, you change head gasket/thermostat fill up new radiator and drive.

 

how big is the hole in the radiator also you could run it without a t-stat it would just run badly but it already does anyway lol. Just carry alot of water jugs with you

 

ya I wouldn't drive it, with your radiator like that your just asking to blow the motor

 

Its a pinhole sized leak, I also have a new radiator at home as well, I think ill jsut bring lots of water with me, and take out the thermostat so atleast there is water flowing.

YOU DON"T you will kill the motor if you try to drive it like that. ON WATER MEANS NO COOLING!! Also even if you get the system to hold water to get home there is no guarantee that the head gasket leak isn't bad enough to fill the cylinder with coolant and cause you to hydro lock the engine and bend a lot of really pricey things. Your best bet call AAA and spring for the gold package that will cover up to 100 mile tow and cost you less then having it towed there out of your own pocket

 

I driving on the d15z1 with a overheat enigne for 30+min.

but see the issue is. that a new motor cost less then to tow it home, The leak is very small, so I think if I just keep alot of water with me, and hope for the best. ANd if it starts acting pissed off then I'll shut it down for a few mins. The little d15 that could will make it, Even if the motor does go, I have a new motor getting lined up for me to buy this weekend.
