I was driving my 1990 ls...and the car just shut off and the check engine light came on....the car was still roaling (going about 40mph) i just started the car and it started back up...and now sometimes when im sitting stopped at a light or something the rpms will drop like its gonna die..but if i give it gas it seems to be ok...any thoughts...maybe fuel filter or fuel pump?.... ....also once when i tried to get on it a little it cut off again...i have only tried that once...

 

check the main fuel relay.

 

yeah i could be your fuel filter or main rely. also check your grounds.

 

1. check grounds
2. perhaps main relay
3. worse case scenario distributor going bad

your spark plug wires are connected to your dizzy.

bump...still have this problem...update: the car sat for two days..i got out to start it and it starts right up..../????....it seems like when i accelerate kind of fast and the rpms get to like 4k it goes off and check engine light comes on...please help

I had a similar problem and a new distributor was the fix.

 

check if your ecu is throwing any codes. pull passenger carpet back till you see your ecu, turn the key 1 click i believe and see how many times the red light flashes. just a little help.

 

thanks ill try that....will that tell me if my dizzy is bad? and if not how can i check it....and what would be a good price to pay for a new one..thanks guys

Pull the codes.. and let us know what code it is throwing then we can go from there.
