Default Overheating problems! HELP PLEASE

I'm running a B18C and I just fired the motor up for the first time today and had some pretty bad overheating problems just idling. It took about 6-8 minutes to heat up to about 220 degrees. I have one hose going from the water pump tube on the back of the motor to the port on the cylinder head at the intake manifold. All other ports are blocked. It seems like I'm not getting any flow through the radiator. The upper hose was hot but the lower hose going to the thermostat was ice cold. I checked the thermostat and it is working correctly.

Is it possible that the water pump itself is bad? Maybe not pumping water?

Thanks for any help

The fan is wired to a switch that I turn on manually. It is working and it is flowing the right way. I did bleed the system using the bleeder on the front of the cyl. head.

After it has cooled down I start it back up and the temp goes from a little under 150 to over 220 in a little under a minute. With the lower hose still being ambient temperature.

since u dont have a bleeder kit fill up radiator till top run vehichle let all the air come out just make sure the water is always leveled to the top of radiator its going to bubble and spill a bit but that should be ur first step let it run till max temp once u feel lower radiaotor hose hot as the top turn on fan and let it cool down . make sure u fill up radiator till top when car is off then start car and bleeding procedure if that doesnt work i woul start with a new t stat probally getting stuck

I'll give that a try and see what happens.

Where can I get a bleeder kit and how does it work? I thought that the bleeder valve on the front of the cylinder head was how the system was suppose to be bled.

I'm using one of those. The water is actually spilling out the top of it.

Do you think its just a giant air bubble? When I start the car the water level is even with the radiator and it rises and spill out of the funnel and my autometer guage reads over 210 and rising. The lower hose remains cold and when I shut off the engine water shoots out of the radiator.

Does anyone know what normal operating temperature should be with a Darton M.I.D sleeved block? Will the operating temp be a little higher because of the water restrictions in the sleeves?

Here's an EZ test to see if you are pushing combustion thru the water jackets...

1. turn the car off
2. take the radiator cap off & fill the radiator to the top
3. start the car with the cap off the radiator...
A. if water is pushed out the radiator during start up you might have a headgasket problem
B. if nothing is forced out the top of the radiator during start-up, you more than likely have a steam pocket trapped inside the motor.

Have you tried jacking up the front of the car and letting the car run with the radiator cap off? By jacking the car up in the front you raise the highest point of the cooling system which should help get any trapped air out.

Unfortunately...I have some experience with cooling systems...
LOL... :-)

If the lower hose is not hot and the upper is, Your thermostat is not opening. Quick way of checking it. Take it out and start it up and get the air bubbles out, if it doesn't heat up your good!

From my experience-I've seen a lot of people have a huge air pocket. It takes a while of bleeding to get it out. It's better to jack up the front or have the car on a hill while bleeding. It took about 45 minutes to get an air pocket out of my friend's 1st built motor-turbo setup. That **** spit coolant out the spill free funnel for days. After that the coolant temps were right where they needed to be.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I took the t-stat out and the temps stayed at 165 idling.
